Description of Work
This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). Note: Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position in order to work in a temporary position. All temporary employees are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time.

This temporary position is with NC Ag Human Resources located at 4400 Reedy Creek Road Raleigh NC Wake County.
Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $30.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).
*** This is a Temporary Full-Time assignment that could lead to Permanent employment.
The primary purpose of this position is to develop implement coordinate evaluate and monitor a comprehensive safety and health program for all sections within the Standards Division. The Standards Division ensures equity and safety in North Carolinas marketplaces by testing commercial weighing and measuring devices inspecting product packaging and retail price scanning systems evaluating the quality of motor fuels inspecting LP-Gas and anhydrous ammonia systems calibrating precision measurement equipment and testing grain moisture meters used in agriculture.
This safety-focused position supports the Standards Division and reports directly to the Agency Safety Director with additional oversight provided by the Standards Division Director. The position is based at the Agricultural Sciences Center in Raleigh.
Responsibilities include:
* Planning and implementing Division safety goals policies and procedures
* Conducting safety inspections of laboratories and field operations
* Identifying workplace hazards and recommending corrective actions
* Ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and providing safety training to staff. Training topics include but are not limited to:
Hazard Communication (GHS)
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Hearing Conservation
Respiratory Protection
Job Safety Analysis
and Accident Investigation
*** Some statewide travel including occasional overnight stays may be required.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree with a major in safety management occupational safety industrial technology or one of the physical sciences from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum of two years of progressive occupational and safety and health experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
