Job Summary

Summer Camp Teacher

Required:Must have a current Alabama Teaching Certificate and have a valid Drivers License

Hours:Monday through Friday of select sessions from 8:30AM to 4:30PM.

Position Summary: The Summer Camp Teacher is responsible for leading campers and activities enrolled in the GBHS Critter Camp.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate fully in week-long camp sessions.
  • Manage camp resources.
  • Report any and all accidents/incidents to the Director of Education.
  • Maintain a classroom climate that nurtures and supports a learning environment.
  • Ensure campers safety during activities.
  • Utilize help from assistant teacher.
  • Monitor and assist with snack and lunch breaks.
  • Attend an animal-handling orientation and training session.
  • Utilize camp software for attendance and medical/allergies.
  • Monitor campers while socializing with shelter animals.
  • Speak with parents/guardians of campers about daily activities.
  • Report to the Director of Education.

Qualifications:

  • Must have an Alabama Teaching Certification and experience with Kto 6th grade children.
  • Expected to be professional at all times.
  • Must support and practice imaginative engaging and learner-centered education.
  • Must practice safe animal-handling skills learned during training.

The sessions we need covered for teachers are: June 1-5 June 22-26 July 20-24 and July 27-31. All of these sessions work with ages 6-12. It can be one person for all four weeks or split into multiple people if needed.

Compensation:Contract employee at $600 per week.

WorkEnvironment

This work is performed in a high noise level area. Exposure to industrial cleaning chemicals fumes dust animal feces zoonotic (human to animal) diseases bites and scratches. Weekend shifts may be required. Safety procedures must be adhered to at all beable to work with and around animals of all types (cats dogs rabbits birdsetc.).Exposure to conditions such asanimal feces urine etc. and foul be exposed to animal dander parasites and infectious diseases thancan be carried and transmitted by be able to work in an environment that provides humane euthanasiato animals.
