Job Summary
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Co-ordinate work and plans for the Protection services team through effective liaison with Business Unit Management
Department work scheduling for Protection services in the Unit (Shift basis)
Continuously liaise with the Senior Superintendent on protection strategy and policies
Monitoring security indicators and trends in the BU and identifying optimization proposals
Ensure that resources are utilized effectively to business needs
Implementing contingency plans to ensure that the Unit is protected from risk even in adverse conditions such as strikes
Implementing security technologies and approaches that would be effective for the Unit
Manage improvement projects that will protect against risks in the Unit
Communicate best practices of the protection to line managers within the organization
Identify best practices applicable to the role through benchmarking other Business Units Conduct investigations within the Unit
Identifying investigations requiring expert advisors or dedicated teams
Build relationships with the community and local law enforcement agencies
Mentor effective risk management approaches relating to Protection services
Input of ideas for protection services management decisions
Identify opportunities to improve protection services within the Unit
Support the development and acceptance of business plans strategies and SLAs for protection services in the Unit
Conduct annual quarterly and acting performance ratings on subordinates
Participate support and manage OTTO standards and drive effective two way open communication with employees
Develop a trusting and mutual respect relationship with internal and external service suppliers to the function
Ensure that employees work in a safe and productive environment and set targets for improvements
Support and participate in the training and development requirements of employees especially in terms of new systems and work practices
Ensure that employees have clear role descriptions
Support the induction of new employees
Interview potential new recruits
Hold disciplinary and grievance enquiries
Identify potential conflict situations and minimize the implications
Control discipline and ensure fair decisions regarding Employee Relations
Fairly manage cultural diversity
Identify ideas to increase motivation and competencies
Ensure that work is fairly allocated
Ensure competency of employees for the work required
Qualifications :
- Grade 12
- NQF LEVEL 5 Certificate in Investigations/Policing/Security/Law and/or RPL or relevant experience in investigations will be considered
- Registered with PSIRA grade A
- Valid drivers license code B
Experience required:
- Minimum 5 years experience in Security or equivalent environment of which 3 years should be in Investigation/Intelligence/ and or Surveillance
- 3 years experience in supervisory position.
Technical Skills
Competent in functional systems used in the organization
Communications in English (spoken written and reading)
Basic knowledge of applicable business reports writing
Statement taking and report writing
Good Communications Skills
Coaching and mentoring skills
Handling and protecting the crime scene
Presentation and handling of evidence in court/disciplinary hearing
Responding to violent crimes
Emergency preparedness and response to various situations
Good working relations
Management skills
Knowledge in Investigation/Intelligence/Logistics and or Surveillance
Knowledge of security related legislation/policies/procedures/standards and VPSHR
Basic project management skills
Basic financial skills
You will also need to have:
- No criminal record
- Pass polygraph test
- Computer Literacy
If successful you will be required to undergo a Medical Fitness Certification.
