FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

This fully functional classification requires incumbents to be able to function in a high volume and ever-changing work environment. Incumbents perform dispatch functions; schedule and adjust drivers equipment and routes; resolve conflicts with a variety of people; and maintain related records. Incumbents will be required to drive a school bus when necessary to cover absences.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

  1. Coordinates transportation needs plans routes and schedules vehicles to applicable drivers for events or routine transportation requirements ensuring safety and efficiency of operations.
  2. Responds to inquiries or requests for information from parents school staff and/or other interested parties regarding transportation route and/or scheduling policies procedures and/or other related information. Resolves problems and/or conflicts that occur.
  3. Maintains applicable software databases and/or Excel spreadsheets in assigned area of responsibility ensuring data is entered appropriately and that the software meets the needs of the department.
  4. Maintains records and scheduling information.
  5. Responds to vehicle and driver emergencies by coordinating re-routes locating replacement vehicles and drivers and making necessary contacts to inform and resolve the situation.
  6. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: (positions in this class typically require):

High School Diploma or G.E.D. and two years of dispatch experience in a high volume industry or function or public safety communications experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: (positions in this class typically require):

Licensing Requirements:

Valid Arizona Commercial Drivers License with P and S and Air Brake Endorsement before transporting students.

AZ DPS School Bus Driver Certification

KNOWLEDGE: (position requirements at entry):

Knowledge of:

Customer service principles;

School Bus Driver responsibilities;

Two-way radio operation;

Computer operations and software;

Transportation scheduling techniques and principles;

City streets;

Applicable Federal State and local laws rules and regulations.

SKILLS: (position requirements at entry):

Skill in:

Providing customer service;

Reading preparing and interpreting maps;

Using a computer and related software applications including Excel;

Preparing reports;

Preparing efficient bus and/or route schedules;

Responding to change in a timely manner;

Identifying and resolving problems;

Working in a high-volume environment;

Interpreting and applying applicable laws rules and regulations;

Passenger management special education equipment installation school bus driving.

Communication interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers supervisor the general public etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting finger dexterity grasping talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.

Must meet physical requirements of a School Bus Driver.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts odors chemicals extreme temperatures inadequate lighting workspace restrictions and intense noises.

Return To Work Retirees will have an hourly rate approximately 9% lower than listed below without falling below minimum wage.
