The North Carolina State Highway Patrols primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible. The NCSHP has more than 1600 troopers who cover nearly 80000 miles of North Carolina roadways more than any other state except addition to enforcing the states traffic laws state troopers also guide traffic during hurricane evacuations re-route traffic around hazardous chemical spills and they stand ready should any act of terrorism occur. Description of Work

If you enjoy solving complex network issues in a dynamic environment this role is for you. Help us keep our operations running without interruption.

Duties include configuring installing and maintaining network hardware and software including routers switches radios and related communication systems. Perform troubleshooting repairs and preventative maintenance to ensure reliable network performance including support of power and infrastructure components. Monitor system performance including antenna and signal quality.

Support microwave and RF communication systems and maintain mission-critical network connections across multi-vendor environments. Assess system needs assist with network design ensure equipment compatibility and resolve operational issues. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support and maintain the VIPER network.

Management Prefers:

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of configuring hardware and software.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of programming switches and routers.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of radio communications and microwave network communications systems.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of radio and/or microwave network troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of radio and/or microwave network maintenance.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Configure and maintain network hardware and software including routers switches radios multiplexers/demultiplexers and GPS equipment.
  • Install repair and perform advanced troubleshooting on network communication systems to ensure reliable operation.
  • Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on communications infrastructure including power systems wiring surge protection generators and UPS equipment.
  • Monitor and evaluate system performance including antenna function signal strength and network reliability.
  • Support and maintain microwave and radio communication systems including RF links repeaters and two-way radio base stations.
  • Assess network needs and assist with system design ensuring compatibility with existing infrastructure and multi-vendor environments.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to resolve communication issues and evaluate hardware/software solutions for reliability and performance.

Position/Physical Requirements:

  • Typical work schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm

  • Some night and weekend work required

Qualified candidate must be able to acquire an NC driver license upon hire.

Minimum Education and Experience

Associates degree or higher from an appropriately accredited institution

OR

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma

AND

two years of equivalent work experience that can demonstrate knowledge and familiarity of networking technology network design analysis management and/or radio frequency fundamentals.

Employees should have at least 3 years of experience in RF related fields.
