Position: MTSS Interventionist
Reports to: Principal / District MTSS Coordinator
Terms of Employment:10 months
Pay Grade: NC Salary Schedule (commensurate with experience) plus local supplement
FLSA Status: Exempt
Nature of Work
The MTSS Interventionist is a licensed educator who provides targeted research-based
academic behavioral and/or attendance interventions to students who are not meeting
grade-level expectations. The MTSS Interventionist works collaboratively with the
District MTSS Coordinator school administrators classroom teachers special
education staff and other professional colleagues to ensure that interventions are data-
driven and aligned with identified student needs.
The primary focus of this role is direct student intervention and progress monitoring to
accelerate student outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruction & Intervention Delivery
- Provide explicit systematic and research-based interventions in academicbehavioral and/or attendance areas
- Deliver small group supplemental (Tier II) and/or intensive (Tier III) instructionaligned to identified student needs
- Implement interventions with fidelity including modeling guided practice andfeedback
- Utilize district-approved intervention programs and evidence-based strategies
Data Analysis & Progress Monitoring
- Use academic behavior and attendance data to identify students in need of intervention
- Analyze screening diagnostic and progress monitoring data (e.g. mCLASS DIBELS AimswebPlus behavior/attendance data)
- Develop and implement targeted intervention plans and adjust instruction based on student progress data
- Conduct regular progress monitoring and maintain accurate documentation of interventions student outcomes and data records within district MTSS/intervention data systems
- Support MTSS team decisions regarding student tier movement
Collaboration & MTSS Implementation
- Communicate with families regarding student progress intervention plans and strategies for support at home
- Participate in MTSS meetings and data teams to support problem-solving and instructional decision-making
- Assist in organizing intervention groups and schedules based on student needs
- Attend district MTSS meetings to ensure alignment between district expectations and school-level implementation
Professional Learning & Capacity Building
- Support teachers in implementing district-endorsed intervention curricula and evidence-based instructional strategies
- Model and share effective intervention practices to support teacher understanding and application
- Share strategies that support student success in core instruction (Tier I)
- Participate in professional learning related to MTSS intervention practices and data-based decision-making
- Facilitate or support professional development to strengthen staff understanding of intervention practices and student support strategies
Qualifications:
Certification and Licensure Requirements (if applicable):
- Must hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educators License.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience preferred
- Experience working with diverse learners and/or intervention programs preferred
- Completion of LETRS training or other Science of Reading-aligned professional development (e.g. structured literacy phonics-based instruction) preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the MTSS framework and tiered instruction
- Knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices
- Ability to deliver explicit systematic instruction
- Knowledge of effective mathematics instruction including the use of concrete representational/pictoral and abstract (CRA) approaches
- Ability to implement evidence-based behavioral strategies to support engagement and self-regulation
- Ability to analyze and use data to inform instruction
- Strong collaboration communication and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple student groups and schedules
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift carry and move instructional materials and resources (up to 2530 pounds)
- Ability to stand walk and actively engage with students for extended periods
- Ability to work in various instructional settings
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
- Knowledge of the MTSS model and how to implement interventions and monitor student progress
- Knowledge of current research on academic behavioral and social-emotional learning (SEL) interventions
- Experience working with and developing programs for diverse groups of students
- Ability to analyze data and use data to drive decision-making
- Assist schools in understanding screening diagnostic and progress monitoring data for the purpose of identification of struggling learners instruction/intervention design and students response to interventions respectively.
- Provides individual and small group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students in pull out and/or classroom setting.
- Assist with designing intervention and monitoring response to intervention for students who are struggling.
- Assists schools in developing strategic plans for intervention and growth for all students.
- Monitor and report out student achievement data associated with the multi-tier assessments.
- Manage student intervention caseloads.
- Mentor school-based Problem-Solving teams through development and implementation of MTSS at all tiers.
- Maintains records as required by the school District and/or state and makes appropriate reports as directed.
- Communicate and work closely with the regular classroom teachers while assisting in the development of each students intervention program.
- Have in-depth knowledge of data collection and progress monitoring
- Develop and provide materials for/with colleagues

- Experience with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
- Experience with the use of technology in the delivery of instruction to students.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. Employees in this job must be energetic and flexible and possess the visual acuity to prepare data work with records processes and do extensive reading and research. Due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking physical requirements are consistent with those for Light work.
