Job Summary

CIMA is looking for an experienced Civil Technician / Surveyor to join our survey team and to support our project teams in our Toronto Burlington Kitchener/Waterloo and London offices.

The primary responsibilities include conducting pre-engineering surveys and construction layout to support preliminary engineering designs across Municipal Engineering Transportation and Energy projects. Other works include working to complete topographic and bathymetric surveys on storm ponds and other infrastructure sites.

We are seeking an independent technically proficient surveyor with hands-on experience using robotic total stations and GNSS/GPS networks to perform attribute-based topographic surveys. A strong understanding of robotic survey equipment and data collection methods is essential.

Detailed responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Execute all aspects of field surveys for municipal engineering and transportation projects including preliminary survey data collection construction layout.
  • Review field survey data for completeness and accuracy complete calculations as needed and prepare survey data for drafting or client project reporting.
  • Establish primary horizontal and vertical control including reference ties for re-establishing the points in the field.
  • There is a potential to complete topographic and bathymetric surveys of stormwater management ponds and related infrastructure.
  • Collect detailed information on buried infrastructure including manholes catch basins and related utility features ensuring accurate location dimensions and condition assessments.
  • Ensuring data is collected using attribute-based survey codes and is compatible with engineering design standards.
  • Record all measurements rod readings and calculations neatly and accurately in field books as the work progresses.
  • Ensure safe work practices and site safety is maintained.
  • Maintain equipment in proper condition and arrange for necessary site calibrations.

Qualifications :

  • Preferred minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Graduate of a Civil / Geomatics Technology Program or equivalent training or experience as a land surveyor.
  • Proficiency with GPS and robotic total station surveying.
  • Experience with CADD and Civil 3D is considered an asset.
  • Detailed understanding of construction/legal surveys.

 

Preferred Characteristics in Candidates:

  • This is primarily a field-based position requiring regular travel to project sites. The role involves working outdoors in a variety of weather and environmental conditions. Candidates must be comfortable performing tasks in urban rural and undeveloped areas often on uneven terrain and near active construction zones.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to work from their own vehicle transporting necessary equipment to and from job locations. Travel and vehicle usage will be compensated in accordance with CIMA policies.
  • Working knowledge of common coordinate systems employed in Ontario and how to use published control monuments.
  • MTO Class G drivers license in good standing and access to a personnel vehicle.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other software applications.
