About the Role
We are looking for a highly capable Data Analyst to support critical apprenticeship and workforce programs within the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. This role sits within a data-driven environment leveraging the Apprenticeships Data Management System (ADMS) alongside datasets from the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER).
You will play a key role in transforming complex large-scale data into meaningful insights that support policy formulation program delivery and operational decision-making. The role contributes directly to assessing apprenticeship eligibility incentive payments and tracking apprentice progression while also enabling near real-time insights between official NCVER reporting cycles.

Key Responsibilities
Extract transform and analyse data from a modern SQL-based data warehouse to generate actionable insights
Develop interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI enabling stakeholders to monitor program performance and market trends
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design build and maintain scalable data models and reporting frameworks
Partner with policy teams to deliver statistical analysis trend identification and evidence-based insights for policy development
Interpret and integrate multiple datasets (including ADMS and NCVER) to provide consistent and reliable reporting outputs
Ensure strong data governance validation and quality control across all reporting and analytics deliverables
Required Skills & Experience
Proven experience as a Data Analyst in data-rich environments
Strong expertise in SQL for data extraction transformation and performance optimization
Advanced experience in Power BI including dashboard development data modelling and DAX
Demonstrated ability to analyse large datasets and present insights in a clear business-friendly manner
Experience working with data warehouses and structured datasets
Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
Excellent analytical thinking problem-solving and communication skills
Desirable / Nice to Have
Experience working within Australian Government or public sector environments
Familiarity with NCVER datasets or workforce/apprenticeship data
Understanding of policy analytics program evaluation or labour market analysis
Exposure to data integration ETL processes or cloud-based data platforms
