Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Billing Officer to support financial operations within a structured healthcare/NGO environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurate billing processes efficient handling of HMO claims and proactive follow-up on outstanding payments.
This role is critical in ensuring revenue accuracy minimizing billing errors and maintaining strong relationships with HMOs and patients through efficient financial coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and issue accurate invoices for services rendered in a timely manner
- Process and manage HMO claims ensuring completeness and compliance with provider requirements
- Liaise with HMOs to resolve billing discrepancies rejections and delays
- Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding payments from HMOs and patients
- Maintain proper documentation and records of all billing transactions and claims
- Reconcile billing data with internal records to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to verify patient information and service details
- Generate periodic billing and revenue reports for management review
- Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and healthcare billing regulations
- Support audits by providing necessary billing documentation and reports
Daily Responsibilities
- Review patient records and service logs to generate invoices
- Submit and track HMO claims
- Follow up on pending rejected or unpaid claims
- Update billing systems and maintain accurate financial records
- Respond to billing-related inquiries from patients and internal stakeholders
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of HND / BSc in Accounting Finance Business Administration or related field
- 3 5 years relevant experience in billing preferably within healthcare or NGO settings
- Prior experience handling HMO billing processes is highly desirable
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
Required Skills (Must-Have)
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic financial tools
- Good numerical and analytical skills
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Effective communication and follow-up skills
Preferred Skills (Added Advantage)
- Experience working with hospital management systems (HMS) or billing software
- Familiarity with Nigerian HMO processes and guidelines
- Knowledge of basic reconciliation and reporting
