POSITION TITLE:Master Plumber
EXEMPTION STATUS:Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO:Director of Facilities & Maintenance
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:12 months
Primary Purpose:
Design and direct the construction and operation of water/drainage projects: water works sewage garbage/trash disposal drainage systems and insects and rodent control. Supervise the activities of the plumbing staff.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
High school diploma or GED
Master Plumber License
Valid Texas drivers license
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of plumbing repairs maintenance and installation techniques
Knowledge of plumbing codes
Ability to read and interpret blueprints diagrams schematics and written reference material
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Ability to use hand and power tools
Experience:
Three years experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience; clear driving record
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair
- Read and interpret plumbing blueprints.
- Review and comply with plumbing codes and the characteristics of all types of pipe fittings and tubing.
- Apply mechanical reasoning to correctly diagnose all plumbing issues.
- Weld and solder connections on metal pipes.
- Analyze the sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs.
- Modify and install new lines seals and leaking joints.
- Replace defective pipe and fitting; repair plumbing fixtures; open clogged drains; repair broken and leaking pipes; and cut thread and bend pipes.
- Fit and seal valves couplings and other fittings to pipe sections.
- Clean or direct other workers to clean boilers and auxiliary equipment.
- Inspect and repair boiler fittings such as safety valves regulators automatic control mechanisms and water columns and auxiliary machines such as pumps draft fans stokers and burners.
- Replace damaged boiler tubes and plates.
- Repair or replace high pressure piping boiler insulation with cement and paint surface of equipment.
- Perform water pressure test by pumping water into system to determine location of leaks.
- Remove and replace defective firebrick.
- Detect and remove rodent and offensive animals from buildings and grounds.
- Work irregular hours and respond to emergencies after hours.

- Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.

- Articulate the districts mission and goals to the community and solicit community support.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
- Tools/Equipment Used: Hand and power tools; pipe bender; propane torch; welding equipment; sewer rooter; heavy equipment including forklift trencher backhoe district vehicle
- Posture: Frequent standing kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and tight and enclosed spaces
- Motion: Frequent walking; repetitive hand motions wrist flexion/extension grasping/squeezing overhead reaching; frequent driving
- Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance 30-55 pounds with assistance and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance
- Environment: Work outside and inside; on slippery or uneven surfaces; on ladders and scaffolding; around machinery and moving parts; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures fumes toxic chemicals and materials noise vibration; frequent districtwide travel; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours
