Principal Software Engineer, Delivery Experience (DEX)

As Principal Engineer for Delivery Choices in Hyderabad youll own the technical foundation for Add to Delivery our fastest-growing customer experience that delivered $billions incremental OPS in 2025 and is expanding to nine countries in 2026. This isnt about optimizing existing systemsits about architecting delivery-building behavior that fundamentally changes how 200 million Prime members shop.

In a team that sits between core Amazon operations and core Amazon retail organizations this is a unique role with enormous breath of influence and ownership. Youll work at the intersection of customer experience fulfillment networks and international expansion coordinating architectural decisions across 30 partner organizations (SCOT P13N CPX EUIC Search Promise Shipping GDCX) while your team operates at maximum parallelization. Your Hyderabad team owns systems spanning international AtD expansion to nine countries (representing large OPS impact and ship cost savings) Core DC precision products across 18 markets and foundational services requiring Tier-1 migration.

Youll have principal-level authority to drive real-time architectural decisions. This is influencer and integrator workshaping technical direction across teams you dont control building consensus across distributed ownership and ensuring our international expansion maintains architectural consistency while moving at maximum velocity.

Youre solving architectural coherence across organizational and geographic boundaries during a high-velocity scaling phase. The technical challenges are specific: redesigning Buy-X-Get-Y promotions architecture to work across multiple purchase sessions evolving Add to Delivery personalization to remove post-filtering from the CX layer in under XXms partnering with Fulfillment Optimization and Search teams to recover XXXms of latency in Search Gateway extending Amazon Day and other consolidation products to pre-checkout surfaces and re-architecting checkout flows with the Purchase Experience team.

Required Domain Expertise
This role requires experience with broad design systems and cross-organizational technical coordination at scale. As an ideal candidate you will already have experience in e-commerce delivery systems architecture. When fully ramped you will need deep understanding of Amazons delivery promise systemshow systems like Promise and Fulfillment Optimization interact to calculate align and fulfill delivery dates across multiple fulfillment networks. This includes expertise in promise matching promise alignment eligibility evaluation and the technical mechanisms that enable consolidation across orders.

Beyond technical depth this role demands expertise in architectural coordination across 30 partner organizations where you must influence design decisions without direct authority. Youll navigate country-specific legal requirements (EU payment regulations MFA constraints in India) marketplace-specific fulfillment characteristics and localized promise behaviors while maintaining architectural consistency.

While in role you must also understand international expansion complexity: configuration management across 27 services promise accuracy requirements varying by locale and the technical debt patterns that compound across markets. This isnt generic distributed systems workits delivery-domain-specific architecture requiring fluency in how customers shop how promises are calculated and how consolidation creates network value.


About the team
Delivery Choices supports customers unique needs for shopping convenience defined as greater consolidation predictability and control over delivery timelines. We enable customers to easily add items to an upcoming delivery at any point during their shopping journey and provide delivery options that offer customers additional benefits like increased control over delivery timelines lower carbon delivery and monetary rewards.

12 years of professional software development experience
7 years programming experience with at least one software programming language
5 years experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
Experience as a mentor tech lead OR leading an engineering team


Ability to take raw product requirements and develop software architectures and designs to bring them to life
Analytical abilities proven design skills and a track record of delivery
Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
Hands-on expertise in many disparate technologies typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in between
Experience in driving systemic operational improvements
Experience mentoring software engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers
Experience influencing software engineers best practices across teams
Experience in communicating with users other technical teams and management to collect requirements describe software product features technical designs and product strategy
Masters degree in computer science or related technical discipline or equivalent experience
Experience with or knowledge of AWS services
Deep understanding of e-commerce delivery systems promise calculation and fulfillment optimization
Experience coordinating architecture across multiple organizations without direct authority
Track record of successful international expansion and marketplace-specific technical adaptations
