JOB CLASS:
JOB TITLE: Instructional Coordinator -Math and Science -Districtwide
REPORTS TO: Chief Academic Officer
REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Kentucky Teacher Certificate
- Minimum of 5 years teaching experience inMath or Science
- Deep understanding and experience in implementing Math or Sciencestandards
- Knowledge and demonstration of sound instructional practices
- Strong presentation and communication skills
- Evidence of successful and collaboration
PRACTICES DESCRIPTION:
The Instructional Coordinator will provide guidance related to Math and Sciencecurriculum for preschool through 12th grade. Coordinates the selection of instructional materials supplies equipment etc. to support effective implementation of content area standards.
Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructional Support
- Increase the quality and effectiveness of classroom instruction with a focus of Math and Science
- Aide teachers in a deep understanding of Math and Sciencestandards and the progression of the standards
- Help establish a model classroom environment
- Model lessons in the classroom
- Identify instructional strengths and coach grade level teams to refine extend and improve their professional practice
- Research and implement the most current educational method in Math/Science instruction
- Ensure that student achievement data drives instructional decision at the district and school levels
- Help district and school leadership team disaggregate student performance data
- Support and assess the levels of implementation of Math and Scienceprograms
- Provide support and lead New Teacher Training as directed by the CAO
Leadership Development
- Work collaboratively with building principals instructional coaches English Language Arts and Social Studies coordinator and other members of the Instruction Team
- Cultivate a culture that supports innovation
- Assist the district and schools in the district/school improvement plan
- Organize and document monthly progress
- Participate and lead professional learning opportunities in and outside the district
- Provide updates to the Board of Education when necessary and warranted
- Maintain regular predictable and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours
- Demonstrate loyalty and education to the purposes and goals of the Owensboro Public Schools
- Establish and maintain cooperative relations andopen lines of communication with colleagues subordinates students parents and community members concerning the academic goals of our district and school
- Supervise and maintain the efficient and accurate maintenance of all required records and reports
- Prepare for meetings and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the principal. Also facilitate the coordination of the Professional Development and training in conjunction with the principal.
- Represents the school in the community effectively and in a positive manner
- Demonstrate a desire to see all students learn and succeed
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and act as a positive role model
- Implement the districts philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
- Provide for his/her own professional growth in accordance with state and federal regulations
- Meet the standards and indicators set forth in the Certified Evaluation Plan.
- Adhere to the requirements of any district or school employee handbook OwensboroBoard of Education policies and all applicable laws and regulations
- Perform all functions and assume other responsibilities deemed necessary by the Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer
- Abide by the Professional Code of Ethics for Kentucky Certified School Personnel.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor environmentally controlled. Typical office environment including but not limited to telephones personal interruptions background noises. May require working with or near the public parents and children and will be subject to sounds scents and other related environmental factors. This position will require dealing with conflict and requires use of sound judgment.
Physical Demands: (example)
- Light lifting
- Sitting for long periods of time
- Hand and finger dexterity
- Repetitive movement
- Standing and walking intermittently throughout a typical work day
Travel Requirements: (Frequency and Duration)
- Less than 10% out of district
- Daily as needed within district boundaries
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on Certified Evaluation Plan. The evaluation will be conducted by the Chief Academic Officer.
