Housing & Food Services (HFS) has an outstanding opportunity for a Marketing Manager to join the team.
TheMarketing Manageris responsible forthecreatingand executing marketing plans to promote HFS programs and services tocurrent and prospective students and their families HFSstaffand the UW community.
As an auxiliary enterprise theDepartmentis funded solely by revenue from students and customers whoutilizethese programs and services such as on-campus housing residential dining retail dining UW Bay Laurel Catering summer conference housing and the Husky Card campus ID card. This position plays a key role in leading annual and ongoing efforts to market on-campus housing and food services optionstoprospective students and HFS residents. Effectiveness is achieved by ensuring that marketing tactics reflect ever-evolving trends and best practices and support theDepartments occupancy resident satisfaction and business goals.
PURPOSE
In collaboration with theMarketing &Communications (MarCom) team members andHFS partners this position providesexpertiseandthought leadershipinmarketingcontentand storytellingto enhance the reputation of priority of this role is to increase student campuscommunityand stakeholder awareness of and participation in HFS programs and services in support of the educational mission of the institution. Effectiveness is achieved by beingcloselyattuned toopportunitiesto tell the story of HFS and the benefits of livingand diningon campusthat continuallyemergein a dynamic environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
MarketingPlanning and Execution(40%)
- Developcomprehensivemarketingand communicationsplansincorporating analytics and userresearch andaligningwithuser andorganizationalgoals.
- Serve as a storytellersharingDepartmenthighlights to generate local and national interest in housing and dining programs and supporting the narrative of the experience of living on campus for prospective students andcurrentresidents.
- CreateandmaintainanHFSeditorial calendarwiththemes and content updated annually anddistributedacross a variety of communication channels.
- Maintain a user-focused approach that follows UWand HFSbrand and editorial style guidelines.
- Conceive write produce and edit content forDepartmentcommunications includingtheHFSwebsite digital publications and other and approve content produced by other team members.
Project and Relationship Management(25%)
- Leadthedelivery of consistent messagingto a variety ofaudienceswith HFSand UWpartners.
- Provide guidancetopeers within theDepartmentin developing and executingeffectivemarketing andcommunication strategies as well as in telling thestoryof HFS and promoting programs and servicesidentifyopportunities andprovidecoaching and resources.
- Managemultiple projects at any given timeand ensure that deliverables are completed on time and within budget. Providetimelyand ongoing communication related to the status of projects and plans.
- Utilize negotiation and relationship-building skills to create buy-in frompartnersand manage changing priorities and project timelines.
- Collaborate withMarComcolleagues to support continual learning and process improvement.
- Identifypotential solutions to complex problems and unique issues as they arise.
Supervision(25%)
- Overseethe work completed by direct reports ensuringappropriate productivityand quality.
- Evaluate the work completed by direct reports and providecoaching andconstructive feedback.
- Provide guidance to direct reports on requirements and opportunities for learning and professional development.
Miscellaneous(10%)
- Support activities in relation toestablishedunit goals andobjectives including researching collecting and/or preparing information and reports.
- Represent unit and department interests on cross-functional teamscommitteesand work groups.
- Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission and strategic initiatives of Housing & Food Services.
- Respond to University andDepartmentemergencies including serving in the Unit Response Center when activated to support HFS facilities services and communities.

POSITION COMPLEXITIES
TheMarketingManagerworks closely and builds consensus within theMarketing& Communicationteam and with key stakeholders from across the organization to continually analyze iterateand improve content and theuserexperiencereflectingkeenattention to inclusivity and accessibility.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Positionmaintainsregular office hours Monday through Fridaywithoccasional requirements toparticipatein eventsor meetingsoutside of regular office hoursand/or on-site work schedule.
- Required to respond to emergencies that occur while on or off duty.
- Work is performed in an open office setting with noise and other distractions. The position may travel to various campus locations with a laptop computercameraor marketing materials.
- Ahybrid arrangement that includes working two days remotely isan optionbased on supervisor approval.
SUPERVISORYRESPONSIBILITIES
Direct supervision of threefull-timeprofessionalstaffand student employees.
REPORTS TO
DirectorofMarketing&Communications.
- Bachelors degree inmarketingcommunicationsjournalismpublic relations business or a related field
- 3years of marketing experience in an academic environment management or leadership role.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters degree in communications digital and new media user experience ora relatedfield.
- Experience working in higher education.
- Excellent presentation verbal and interpersonal communication skills including communicating effectively with stakeholders and leadership about priorities and deliverables.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse populations anddemonstratedcommitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.
- Working knowledge of Content Management System.
- Working knowledge of journey mapspersonasand other user experience methodologies.
- Ability to learn emerging digital tools.
- Attention to detailability to consistently meetdeadlinesand strong customer service orientation.
- Ability tomanage multiple competing prioritiesin a dynamic workenvironment.
