JOB DESCRIPTION

Behavior Support Specialist

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR School Principal

GENERAL DUTIES

Provide behavior support through prevention interventions and responsive actions to K-12 staff and students. Conduct behavioral observations and evaluations provide behavioral consultation and professional development training to District staff and regularly attend school meetings. Build capacity in assistants to serve students and staff in school buildings. A team member on the school counseling team. Collaborate and cooperate with other educational professionals to best serve students needs and district goals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A Masters degree in Special Education School Psychology Counseling Social Work or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the role successfully.
  2. A valid Oregon Teaching License appropriate for the position
  3. A valid Oregon Drivers license and reliable transportation for on the job travel
  4. Experience and expertise in student behavior management collaborative problem solving staff development
  5. The ability to provide leadership to staff in areas of specialization
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills to consult effectively with teachers administrators and parents in a variety of settings
  7. The physical ability to assist staff in physical management of students in crisis
  8. The ability to effectively work and communicate with students parents and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds
  9. The ability to work harmoniously with others
  10. The ability to maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students staff and District patrons
  11. Proficient oral and written communication skills in English and the ability to present effectively to large groups
  12. Proficient in the use of computer and Internet based applications including but not limited to email and systems applications
  13. The ability to learn new automated systems as they are brought online by the District

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conduct behavioral assessments and Functional Behavioral Assessments for students both disabled and non disabled
  2. Assist and support building and District staff and parents in the development implementation and revision of student behavior intervention plans
  3. Facilitate team processes including problem solving pre-referral intervention and IEP development for special needs students
  4. Provide technical assistance to staff in all areas related to emotional disturbance and behavior disorders and interventions
  5. Design and lead Professional Development
  6. Coordinate District family and community resources to integrate services for students
  7. Participate on schools Student Study Teams IEP and 504 teams as needed
  8. Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment

Terms of Employment:Salary and work year as determined by the administration and in accordance with Board policy individual work agreements and the collective bargaining agreement. Supervisor will consider individual training experience and specific needs in making staff assignments.
