Event Support Assistant - Canada Summer Jobs

Location: IslamicFamily Hub (Street)

Report to: Community Relations Manager

Salary: $17

Position Start Date: June 1 2026

Position End Date: July 31 2026


About the Role

As the Event Support Assistant you will play a key role in helping IslamicFamily design and deliver impactful community events programs and workshops throughout the summer. Youll assist with everything from setup and logistics to promotion and guest support. This position supports event experiences that are welcoming inclusive and rooted in community connection. The ideal candidate is proactive detail-oriented and enjoys working hands-on in fast-paced settings.

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Program.


Duties & Responsibilities

Daily Tasks

  • Prepare and organize materials for event setups signage and hospitality stations
  • Support on-site event execution by welcoming guests and guiding them through the event
  • Assist with event photography and collecting feedback from attendees
  • Help maintain clean accessible and welcoming event spaces before and after programs

Weekly Tasks

  • Attend team meetings and support the planning of upcoming events
  • Assist with event promotion and outreach through social media flyers or online RSVP forms
  • Coordinate with volunteer teams and program leads to align on event logistics
  • Track attendance and logistical needs using checklists spreadsheets or Notion
  • Support with transportation coordination and accessibility planning

Monthly Tasks

  • Assist with organizing larger-scale community events including picnics workshops and faith-based programs
  • Capture and organize event documentation (photos stories supplies used)
  • Support event evaluations and contribute feedback to improve future programming
  • Prepare updates for the Community Engagement team and contribute to storytelling content


Required Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated interest or experience in event planning logistics community programs or customer service
  2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to create welcoming experiences for diverse communities
  3. Ongoing or completed post-secondary education in event management communications arts social sciences or related field preferred
  4. Highly organized and detail-oriented with time management and multitasking skills
  5. Familiarity with Google Workspace and digital tools such as Notion Canva or spreadsheets
  6. A friendly helpful demeanor with the ability to stay calm and resourceful during events
  7. Those hired under CSJ must be between 15-30 years of age and either a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred (foreign students are ineligible) and be legally entitled to work in Canada.


9 Week Project Milestones

  1. Week 1: Orientation review of organizational systems upcoming event calendar and hospitality standards
  2. Week 2: Assist with event planning and preparation for June programming; organize materials and confirm logistics
  3. Week 3: Support on-site execution of events; draft outreach materials and help capture photos/stories
  4. Week 4: Support the Community Picnic and other events; assist with setup guest support and clean-up
  5. Weeks 58: Coordinate ongoing event logistics assist with guest communications and volunteer integration
  6. Week 9: Submit final report with event highlights attendance stats and future recommendations
