Job Summary

The Business Development Representative- LTL (BDR) is responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities through strategic prospecting lead generation and customer acquisition. This role focuses on engaging potential enterprise-level customers building early-stage relationships and successfully transitioning new accounts to the strategic sales team.

The Business Development Representative- LTL serves as a liaison between prospective customers and internal sales teams ensuring a smooth onboarding experience and strong foundation for long-term this role the BDR collaborates closely with sales leadership and account management teams to support account growth while maintaining high levels of customer engagement and professionalism.

This position requires strong communication skills the ability to manage multiple prospects simultaneously and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced sales environment.

Responsibilities:

Sales Prospecting & New Business Development

  • Conduct outbound prospecting activities including cold calling email outreach and other lead generation strategies to identify potential enterprise-level customers.
  • Qualify prospects based on freight profile strategic alignment and fit with IELs Strategic Services service model.
  • Build and maintain a database of prospective customers and track outreach efforts and engagement.
  • Negotiate with prospects and customers to secure new business opportunities and competitive pricing.
  • Close new business and initiate the customer onboarding process.
  • Follow up on warm leads to build and develop strong customer relationships

Customer Relationship Development & Account Transition

  • Serve as the primary liaison between prospective customers and the Strategic Sales team during the initial sales process.
  • Coordinate the handoff of new accounts to the appropriate LTL Team Lead to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Participate in early-stage engagement with new customers to support onboarding and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain strategic relationships with customers to support retention and identify potential growth opportunities.

Collaboration & Internal Communication

  • Partner with Strategic Services team and other sales leadership to align on prospect strategy and account placement.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to provide the necessary information and context to ensure successful account management following the handoff.
  • Attend prospect and customer meetings as needed to support relationship development and account growth.

Sales Process & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of prospecting activity customer interactions and pipeline updates within company systems.
  • Conduct regular customer follow-ups and check-ins as appropriate.
  • Review customer feedback and help identify opportunities to improve service and support.
  • Assist with claims or issue resolution when needed in coordination with the account team.
  • Represent IEL professionally in all customer interactions and communications.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of transportation and/or logistics experience.
  • Experience with lead generation prospecting or sales development.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.

Preferred:

  • Two (2) years of LTL experience.
