World Heritage Project Officer
Birkenhead Park - one of the worlds most influential public parks and the inspiration behind New Yorks Central Park is entering an exciting period of development. Wirral Council is seeking a highly motivated and skilled World Heritage & Projects Officer to play a key role in progressing the parks nomination for UNESCO World Heritage Site status and supporting major externally funded heritage projects. This is a rare opportunity to help shape the long-term future of one of the UKs most important historic landscapes working alongside national and international bodies including UNESCO ICOMOS DCMS Historic England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund
About the role:
As the World Heritage & Projects Officer you will:
- Support the delivery of Birkenhead Parks UNESCO nomination and related strategic initiatives.
- Lead and coordinate community and stakeholder engagement to inform project development.
- Work with the World Heritage Steering Group advisory committees and external partners. Assist in developing managing and delivering multimillion-pound heritage and conservation projects.
- Represent the Parks & Countryside Service at meetings workshops and engagement events. Support procurement reporting consultation activities and project planning.
- Help ensure that Birkenhead Park continues to thrive as a well-loved well used and nationally recognised heritage landscape.
- This role offers a unique blend of heritage project support public engagement and partnership working.
About the candidate:
We are looking for someone who can bring enthusiasm creativity and strong organisational skills to a high-profile heritage environment.
You will have:
A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area along with excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage communities stakeholders and professional partners.
Experience delivering or supporting large-scale projects or campaigns with strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines as well as a passion for heritage conservation and public engagement.
Experience of working on UNESCO programmes heritage funding bids or within historic landscapes is desirable but not essential.
