The starting salary is based upon the previous number of years of teaching experience.Any part-time part-time position (less than 1.0 FTE) will be proratedto the appropriate FTE.

General Summary:

The Behavioral Support Interventionist assists with school-wide behavioral interventions including providing intervention strategies for students experiencing difficulties in the school setting which may interfere with their social emotional and/or academic development. This position works closely with the districts Director of Whole Child Systems to align behavioral supports with district-wide social-emotional learning mental health and student wellness initiatives. The Behavioral Support Interventionist reports to the building principal.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Act as a consultant to teachers in dealing with challenging behavior.
  2. Assist in developing Positive Behavioral Supports for students.
  3. Participate in the staffing of students who are recommended.
  4. Support transition efforts for students entering or leaving.
  5. Attend IEP/TASC meetings and assist in the development of behavioral support for students.
  6. Provide support/guidance in the implementation of school-wide positive behavioral supports.
  7. Develops and participates with school staff in the implementation of intervention strategies regarding behaviors adversely affecting the personal social-emotional and academic development of children.
  8. Assist the principal in the evaluation and implementation of programs.
  9. Assist in the development and maintenance of a behavioral health resources map for staff and families.
  10. Support integration of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) systems within building practices.
  11. Assist with coordination and implementation of behavioral health programming.
  12. Compile or assist in compiling behavioral data used to monitor student outcomes and evaluate behavioral health programming.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Must hold a valid Michigan teaching credential or equivalent certification.
  2. Minimum of Bachelors Degree in Education Counseling School Social Work Psychology or equivalent degree.
  3. Background in developing Behavior Interventions.
  4. Extensive background in de-escalation of behavior and use of Positive Behavior Supports.
  5. Background in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments to meet students needs (FBA).
  6. Background in developing Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPS).
  7. Background in providing consultation to parents regarding behavioral issues.
  8. Ability to develop goals and objectives that are specifically related to behavioral needs of students with an emotional impairment or significant behavioral issues.
  9. Experience work with students with Emotional Impairments or challenging behavioral needs.
  10. Knowledge of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and behavioral health frameworks.
  11. Ability to collaborate with community mental health providers and social service agencies.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  1. Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis.
  2. Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  3. Duties include frequent walking and physical activity as well as use of hands and arms for signaling and light lifting/carrying. Must have the ability to move about the classroom/building and school property including bending pushing/pulling lifting twisting climbing stooping or crouching to complete work-related tasks with and without students.
  4. The ability to listen and effectively orally communicate information and ideas to a diverse population.
  5. Ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s).
  6. Ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions.
  7. Ability to work effectively and efficiently.

Environmental Conditions:

Incumbents work in indoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. Duties may be completed in cold and hot temperatures including work on slippery and/or uneven surfaces. Work environment includes working around students school equipment and office equipment.

Work Schedules:

Must be available to report during the school year consistent with the districts school year calendar.

Background Checks:

The individual selected for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
