The starting salary is based upon the previous number of years of teaching experience.Any part-time part-time position (less than 1.0 FTE) will be proratedto the appropriate FTE.
General Summary:
The Behavioral Support Interventionist assists with school-wide behavioral interventions including providing intervention strategies for students experiencing difficulties in the school setting which may interfere with their social emotional and/or academic development. This position works closely with the districts Director of Whole Child Systems to align behavioral supports with district-wide social-emotional learning mental health and student wellness initiatives. The Behavioral Support Interventionist reports to the building principal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Act as a consultant to teachers in dealing with challenging behavior.
- Assist in developing Positive Behavioral Supports for students.
- Participate in the staffing of students who are recommended.
- Support transition efforts for students entering or leaving.
- Attend IEP/TASC meetings and assist in the development of behavioral support for students.
- Provide support/guidance in the implementation of school-wide positive behavioral supports.
- Develops and participates with school staff in the implementation of intervention strategies regarding behaviors adversely affecting the personal social-emotional and academic development of children.
- Assist the principal in the evaluation and implementation of programs.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of a behavioral health resources map for staff and families.
- Support integration of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) systems within building practices.
- Assist with coordination and implementation of behavioral health programming.
- Compile or assist in compiling behavioral data used to monitor student outcomes and evaluate behavioral health programming.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:
- Must hold a valid Michigan teaching credential or equivalent certification.
- Minimum of Bachelors Degree in Education Counseling School Social Work Psychology or equivalent degree.
- Background in developing Behavior Interventions.
- Extensive background in de-escalation of behavior and use of Positive Behavior Supports.
- Background in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments to meet students needs (FBA).
- Background in developing Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPS).
- Background in providing consultation to parents regarding behavioral issues.
- Ability to develop goals and objectives that are specifically related to behavioral needs of students with an emotional impairment or significant behavioral issues.
- Experience work with students with Emotional Impairments or challenging behavioral needs.
- Knowledge of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and behavioral health frameworks.
- Ability to collaborate with community mental health providers and social service agencies.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis.
- Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
- Duties include frequent walking and physical activity as well as use of hands and arms for signaling and light lifting/carrying. Must have the ability to move about the classroom/building and school property including bending pushing/pulling lifting twisting climbing stooping or crouching to complete work-related tasks with and without students.
- The ability to listen and effectively orally communicate information and ideas to a diverse population.
- Ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s).
- Ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently.
Environmental Conditions:
Incumbents work in indoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. Duties may be completed in cold and hot temperatures including work on slippery and/or uneven surfaces. Work environment includes working around students school equipment and office equipment.
Work Schedules:
Must be available to report during the school year consistent with the districts school year calendar.

The individual selected for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
