Safety Risk Analyst
Job Summary
Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit including GO Expansion Light Rail Transit routes and major expansions to Torontos subway system to get people where they need to go better faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Our Safety Risk & Intelligence Office is seeking a Safety Risk Analyst to identify and clarify business requirements for the successful deployment of appropriate safety system solutions. The Analyst will act as a key liaison with business units ensuring full participation in technology projects and recommending priorities to mitigate implementation risks on significant initiatives.
What will I be doing
- Identifies and facilitates development of documentation for new and modified safety risk procedures (e.g. standard operating procedures (SOPs) and workflows) to ensure effective implementation of technology solutions.
- Proposes improvements to automate safety functions and make effective use of technology to improve the data analysis process.
- Provides guidance and positive support during safety risk assessments; addresses arising issues by contributing expertise to proposed alternative safety solutions.
- Facilitates dialogue and discussion between the internal stakeholders regarding safety risk assessments.
- Assists the business to prepare safety benefit cases understand scope limitations and manage expectations during project implementation.
- Collaborates with diverse stakeholders to gather qualitative and quantitative data needed for solid decision-making.
- Monitors project documentation and implementation procedures to meet corporate and industry standards and enable intended benefits to be realized.
- Identifies opportunities for new technology/automation or streamlining business processes and workflows.
- Assists in developing business training needs.
- Influences procurement and investment decisions by recommending best solutions for business needs and identifying areas of waste or duplication.
- Provides cost benefit analysis to business cases.
- Uses testing period to mitigate risks and save time and money in implementation.
- Models Metrolinxs values and core competences especially in dealings with external partners and in the handling of sensitive and confidential information
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need
- Post-secondary degree in Computer Science Information Systems Engineering Business Process Improvement Safety or a related discipline or a combination of education training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience as an Analyst preferably in the transport or construction industry and / or the public sector
- A valid Ontario Class G drivers license and ability to obtain a GO Transit Operators Permit may be required for certain business units.
- Experience successfully deploying technology solutions in the transport or construction industry is an asset.
- Experience with computerized quantitative and analytical tools (e.g. data modeling workflows and business process analysis) and with MS Office (Outlook Word Excel Visio PowerPoint Project etc.)
- Interpersonal oral/written/presentation communications skills to document and present business needs specifications reports project documents and implementation plans.
