    Primary Purpose:
    Provide students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to match student ability levels. Work in self-contained team departmental or itinerant capacity as assigned. Provide support and training for teachers staff and parents to address and manage students with challenging behaviors.

    Qualifications:
    Education/Certification:
    Bachelors degree from accredited university
    Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments (Special Education Core Subjects ESL Supplemental)

    Special Knowledge/Skills:
    Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
    Knowledge of Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting and implementation
    Knowledge of how to adapt curriculum and instruction for special needs
    Knowledge of behavior and social skill intervention techniques and methodology
    Ability to work with students with pervasive developmental disabilities
    Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
    Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills

    Experience:
    Three (3) years of experience as a special education teacher in related social work or in work related to the certified field preferred
    Experience working with students including implementing behavior management strategies.

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:
    Instructional Strategies
    with students parents and other members of staff to develop IEP through the ARD Committee process for each student assigned.
    an instructional therapeutic or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required.
    assessment of student learning styles. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
    subject matter effectively and according to guidelines established by IEP. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media including technology to meet the needs and capabilities of each student assigned
    cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed and assist special education students in regular classes with assignments.
    in selection of books equipment and other instructional media.

    Student Growth and Development
    ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

    Classroom Management and Organization
    classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
    all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
    and assign the work of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.

    Instructional and Program Management
    with administrators and teachers to design and develop research based behavioral intervention plans (BIP) provide support to instructional staff in implementing BIPs and classroom management strategies.
    the effectiveness of behavior intervention plans and recommend changes as needed.
    functional behavioral assessment (FBA) based on observation of students in school home and community environments. Work with school staff and parents in teaching socially acceptable behaviors to students based on individual needs.
    in admission review and dismissal (ARD) committee meetings. Work collaboratively with parents teachers and other staff members to ensure success in meeting individual educational plan (IEP) goals.
    student behavior and administer discipline including intervening in crisis situations and physically restraining students as necessary according to IEP.
    teachers with lesson planning lesson modeling classroom management and behavior management.
    and maintain effective behavioral management and intervention techniques with individual and/or groups of students and provide assistance in meeting educations occupational and personal needs.
    in the Response to Intervention (RtI) process and Early Intervention Team (EIT) meetings to address academic and behavioral issues with identified students.
    with parents administrators and teachers concerning school and student issues.

    Training and Staff Development
    staff development needs develop and present training and coach campus personnel to continually develop and enhance behavioral assessment and intervention skills.
    behavior management training for parents as needed.

    Professional Growth and Development
    continuous improvement and growth in knowledge of behavior intervention strategies methodologies and analysis.

    Other
    with district and outside resources regarding education social medical and personal needs of students.
    serve on campus behavioral threat assessment and safe and supportive schools team.
    district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
    and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents students principals and teachers.
    professional relationships with parents students and colleagues.
    in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
    and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
    all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
    maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records statistical data and other documents required.
    informed of and comply with federal state district and school regulations and policies for special education.
    other duties as assigned by the campus Principal Director of Special Education Chief of Staff and the Superintendent of Schools.
