More Than Words (MTW) is a nonprofit social enterprise that empowers youth who are in the foster care system court involved homeless or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business. By working as a team to manage their own retail and online used book business and community space youth develop the employment skills leadership and self-confidence they need to successfully transition to adulthood.

The Opportunity

TheVolunteer Manager is an organized and enthusiasticalumnusofMore Than Wordswhoengages volunteers to support our mission in many ways. The Managerruns 2-3 group volunteerevents weekly interviews and onboardsrecurring individual volunteersstays in regular communication with 30-40individuals about their weekly schedule and provides administrative support for the program including managing an active volunteer email inbox. The Manager reports to the Associate Director ofDevelopment andalsoassiststhe department inroutine and ad hoc administrative tasks such as donation processing and event support.

Key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

Group Volunteer Events(50%):

  • Maintains a detailed andaccuratecalendar ofgroupvolunteerevents for all MTW locations tracking open slots dates on hold and confirmed dates.Coordinates with staff at each location to confirm upcoming groups plantasksandlogistics.
  • Personallyrunsall group volunteer eventswhile engaging youth on the teamtypically 2-3groupsweeklyarranging the schedule to allow the Manager to be at the correct location for that day.Works with youth to set up the tasks greet the volunteers manage sign-ingivea tour supportthe tasks engage with volunteers run check-out make an ask for financial donations and clean up the space.
  • Maintains volunteer emailaccountsat leastoncedailyto provide quick and professional responses to all groups reaching out about volunteering. Responds to inquiries offers dates schedules events sends reminders and information and sends follow-up materials.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director supports fundraising goals for More Than Words by asking volunteer groups to contribute financiallyinconjunction with their event asappropriate.
  • Maintainsaccuraterecords in the Salesforce database of all volunteer emails and activities.

Individual Volunteers(30%):

  • Manages schedules for 30-40 individual volunteers who come onsite weekly to support operations and youth development at More Than Words.Communicates with volunteers about closures/cancellations and with staff about volunteer vacations/absences.
  • Maintains volunteer emailaccountat leastoncedaily to provide quick and professional responses to all individuals reaching out about volunteering.
  • Hostsquarterlyoverview sessionsmanages an application process schedules interviews holds orientationsas new volunteers are approved.
  • Coordinates with the Administration team to complete background checks and reference checks for all volunteers to be approvedto work onsite.
  • Maintainsaccuraterecords in the Salesforce database of all volunteers and their attendanceandaccuratefileson eachvolunteers.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Director of Development and leadership at all MTW locations to ensure volunteer schedules and shifts align with business and site needs.
  • Develops and then implements improved systems for volunteer appreciation and engagement potentially including social media profiles of volunteersvolunteer appreciation events a volunteer newsletter etc. creating a regular cadence forappreciation.

Department Support(20%):

  • SupportsAdvancementDepartmentwithroutinedonation processingand donor recognition entering donations into the Salesforce database updating recordssending tax receipts and writing personalized thank you cards.
  • Provides support for the marketing function by capturing photos and videosat various MTW locations as requested by the Director of Marketing.
  • Contributes to events and projects as they come up including tasks like tracking RSVPs for events helping with event preparation and set-upetc.
  • Flexibly collaborates as part of theadvancementteambyparticipatingin meetings toursand public-facing opportunities to support community engagement and fundraising goals.
  • Staysup to date andengagedwith the organizationtoinform conversationswith volunteers.

Key Qualifications:

  • Analumniof the MTW programwho is no longer engaged in MTW case management
  • Strong communicator both verbally and written
  • Organized with strong planning and follow through skills
  • Able to sit and focusona computer forlarge portionsof the day
  • Bring a growth attitude: excited for professional growth and developing skills around administrative systems engaging writing and public speaking
  • Responsible flexible hardworking ethical and committed to personal growth in racial equity
  • Ability tomaintainfirm professional boundaries as an adult stafffrom youth receiving services from MTW (readiness core career services etc.)
  • A high school diploma
  • Ability to support evening and weekend workwithadvanceplanning (e.g. attending More Than Words eventsor volunteer fairs).
  • Ability to sitand typeat a computerforlong periodsof time.
  • Ability to lift and move items weighting up to 25lbsto set up forvolunteer events.

Schedule:TypicallyMonday-Friday 9AM-5PM. Hiringmanagerwould love the ability forcandidateto work one weekend day ifable.This role willwork between our Boston and Waltham sites.

Compensation:$52000 - $57749;commensuratewith skills and experience
