Job Summary:
The City of Greeley is seeing an Industrial Pretreatment Specialist to join the Wastewater Treatment Reclamation team at our treatment plant in Greeley Colorado. The Industrial Pretreatment Specialist reports directly to the Wastewater Technical Services Manager and is a support position that samples and acquires data from commercial and industrial users applying General Pretreatment Regulations to applicable commercial and industrial users to ensure compliance with Greeley Pretreatment Chapter ordinance requirements. The incumbent will also sample and acquire data from wastewater treatment processes to ensure that the Citys Colorado Discharge Permit System (CDPS) permit monitoring requirements are fulfilled according to the City of Greeley State and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) permits rules regulations and laws.
Experience Knowledge Skills:
Minimum Requirements:
- Current valid Colorado drivers license with an acceptable record.
- Bachelors degree in Biology Chemistry Environmental Science or a related field with specialized technical training of equivalent length.
- Relevant experience in environmental laboratory work and field sampling.
- Confined space entry training required or ability to acquire within one (1) year of hire date.
OR
- A combination of related education experience certifications and licenses will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job may be considered by the hiring authority.
Preferred:
- One (1) to three (3) years of experience with an understanding of sampling monitoring and analysis procedures and protocols as well as knowledge of Federal State and local pretreatment regulations.
- Class D Colorado Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators license
- Wastewater Treatment plant operations experience.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read understand and follow instructions.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office database entry and software related to sampling equipment flow meters and pH meters.
- Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage schedules coordinate meetings and meet deadlines.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities adapt to changing demands and complete daily assignments and special projects effectively.
- Ability to work independently with sound judgment and collaboratively as part of a team.

Essential Functions:
- Programs and operates auto samplers collects samples and data from industrial users to ensure quality defensible pollutant data to determine compliance with State and Federal Clean Water Act requirements.
- Programs and operates autosamplers and collects samples and data from WTRF to ensure that the Citys Colorado Discharge Permit System (CDPS) permit monitoring requirements are fulfilled.
- Applies general pretreatment regulations and local ordinances to applicable commercial industrial users andcleans and prepares sampling equipment using EPA required techniques.
- Receives analysis data in electronic format and reviews analytical reports to verify that all required pollutant parameters were analyzed according to Federal requirementsof 40 CFR 136.
- Distributes analytical data to interested parties to determine compliance with state and Federal requirements.
- Conducts and maintains a commercial user survey and maintains database on the prescribed frequency.
- Oversees and maintains Best Management Practices programs for dental amalgam and food service establishment commercial sectors.
- Issues written or verbal communications to commercial users regarding any requirements or instructions.
- Investigates complaints of spill and illegal discharges.
- Inspects commercial user sites and prepares investigative reports.
- Provides evidence for possible enforcement actions.
- Develops organizes and assists with public outreach/education efforts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Travel:Standard Local Travel: This position requires occasional local travel within the County. Employees may be expected to walk or drive short distances to attend meetings trainings or perform work at other city buildings or partner sites.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to all weather conditions machinery noise wastewater-related biohazards traffic areas and occasional laboratory chemicals.
- Duties may include occasional confined space entry spill and illegal discharge investigations and driving a City vehicle in all weather conditions.
- Position requires working independently with groups and in meetings at various City and field locations.
- May require occasional evening weekend holiday or extended-hour work.
- Work may involve interruptions competing priorities and firm deadlines.
- Frequent interaction with employees customers and the public in person and by telephone requires effective communication skills and the ability to coordinate with other departments and agencies.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods; walk and move within confined work areas; and frequently perform repetitive motions hearing talking and reaching for activities.
- Requires the ability to kneel stoop bend twist crouch and lift or move objects up to 50 lbs. with assistive equipment as needed.
- Requires manual dexterity to operate tools vehicles sampling equipment and to accurately enter retrieve and verify information.
- Requires sufficient vision to identify materials inspect equipment locate water and sewer infrastructure operate vehicles and sampling equipment and perform close visual tasks such as reading data review and computer work.
