What We Offer

This is an on-call position which means it is a part-time hourly role. This position will work at least 20 hours per week and no more than 39 hours per week. The starting pay for this position is set at $19.80 per hour and is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denvers 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. Oncall positions may have routine or variable work schedules.

Location

In this position you can expect to work on site at multiple recreation centers around the City and County of Denver.

Summer Rec Kidz program locations include:

You will be expected to work on site Monday- Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm. This includes a mandatory 30-minute lunch break.

An onboarding session is required the week of June 1st. There will be a mandatory week-long training held June 8th 12th from 9:00am 5:00pm. Summer Rec Kidz officially runs from June 15th August 7th from 9:00 a.m.4:00 p.m. You must maintain a 90% attendance rate as our youth rely on structure and routine to make this program a success.

What Youll Do

Denver Parks and Recreation is seeking MY Denver Youth Inclusion Support Floaters to supports campers who may have diagnosed or undiagnosed disabilities mental or behavioral health challenges difficulty adjusting to camp routines or who come from diverse or challenging life circumstances. These positions provide an opportunity to make a direct positive impact to enrich the lives of the Denver communitys youth ensuring and participating in fun and engaging programming!

The MY Denver Card provides free access to all Denvers recreation centers for young people ages 5-18 who are residents of Denver and/or attend Denver Public Schools. MY Denver exists to engage young people in structured drop-in programming through a myriad of learning and social opportunities during out-of-school time. Out-of-school time recreational programming directly contributes to academic and social development positioning youth for present and future success. MY Denvers focus is to provide safe supportive quality opportunities for youth to play learn and grow.

Our summer programs offer a fun and safe place for youth to socialize and explore a variety of recreational activities through hands-on projects and experiences. The Summer Rec Kidz Team is devoted to engaging the community through facilitating programs and activities for a diverse group of youth ages 812. Our team is gearing up to engage our youth in a new and imaginative way and are looking to bring on Summer Youth Inclusion Supports to join our team. This role is dedicated to ensuring that every child regardless of ability or diagnosis has a successful and meaningful camp experience. As a float staff member you will travel between various camp sites to provide extra support to campers requiring behavioral social or sensory accommodations.

Our Summer Inclusion Supports wear many hats throughout the day as:

  • Adaptive Support: Implement individualized strategies to help campers with various diagnoses (including ASD ADHD and sensory processing disorders) participate in group activities.
  • Behavioral Coaches Use positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques to help campers manage emotions and social interactions.
  • Activity Modifiers: Collaborate with Site Leads to adapt games crafts and sports to meet the unique needs of specific campers.
  • Safety advocates: Ensure a safe inclusive environment where every camper feels valued and respected.
  • Comfortable working with youth in a variety of settings including but not limited to outdoor spaces pools off-sit excursions and mountain parks
  • Providers of a safe supportive inclusive learning environment for all participants

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience skills and characteristics:

  • Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able to establish a safe work environment
  • Previous experience working with children with disabilities or neurodivergent youth in a recreational or educational setting
  • Strong understanding of behavioral support strategies and the ability to pivot quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with site supervisors parents and campers.
  • Understanding of age and ability appropriate activities and crafts
  • Current CPR First Aid and Standard Precautions
  • Strong de-escalation and redirection skills
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel between various camp sites throughout the Denver/Aurora area

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Experience Requirement: One (1) year of experience in assisting in the operation and instruction of organized recreation activities
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
  • License/Certifications: Requires certification in CPR and First Aid within 6 months of date of hire
  • Requires a valid drivers license at the time of application.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of continued employment
