Recovery Support Specialist

Location: Chicago IL

Position Summary

The Recovery Support Specialist works to increase access to Social Security disability benefits for eligible individuals who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness and have a serious mental illness medical impairment and/or co-occurring substance use disorder as part of an intensive team-based service.

Salary: $50000 - $55000 annually

Responsibilities

The Recovery Support Specialist will perform duties including but not limited to:

  • Perform all work in a manner consistent with the National Youth Advocate Programs mission values and philosophies.
  • Participate in the development of the individual treatment/service plans with the client caregiver(s) referring agency caseworker significant family member(s) and natural support.
  • Promote recovery by increasing access to SSI/SSDI for individuals with co-occurring conditions.
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations for substance abuse and co-occurring mental health issues.
  • Develop and implement individualized evidence-based treatment and recovery plans in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team
  • Facilitate and lead individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Teach coping mechanisms relapse prevention strategies and life skills.
  • Collaborate with doctors psychiatrists and other professionals for a team-based ACT/CST Program.
  • Maintain accurate confidential client records and progress reports.
  • Provide immediate support during emergencies and on an on-call basis.
  • Connect clients with community resources support groups (like AA/NA) and aftercare services.
  • Provide psychoeducation to clients and families about addiction and recovery.
  • Regularly review the goals progress and activities of the assigned individual with the supervisor.
  • Complete all relevant training on a timely basis as required by state contract and/or licensing agency standards.
  • Complete all required documentation promptly.
  • Maintain client contact as required by program expectations.
  • Actively and directly engage with the individual to meet service needs and goals/objectives of the treatment/service plan.
  • Interact with the individual to develop a trusting supportive relationship while assisting the individual in achieving identified goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 21 years of age or older.
  • A bachelors degree in a human services-related field or CRSS certification.
  • Have acquired or meet the qualifications for certification as a Certified Recovery Specialist(CRSS) or Certified Alcohol or Drug Counselor (CADC).
  • Working reliable telephone.
  • Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers smartphones and tablets printers fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing spreadsheet and database programs.

Other Skills

  • 2 years experience working directly with individuals and families is preferred.
  • Works well independently and as a team member.
  • Multi-task efficiently and be flexible in all situations.
  • Openness to traveling as needed.

Driving and Vehicle Requirements

  • Valid drivers license
  • Reliable personal transportation
  • Good driving record
  • Minimum automobile insurance coverage of $10000/$300000 bodily injury liability
