Shift Differential Premium: $1.75 per hour for hours worked between 6pm-6am

Schedule: Tuesday Saturday 12:30pm 9:00pm

Status: 100% Full-Time Non-Exempt Union

Probation: 90 days

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:The Youth Services Department serves youth up to the age of 25 who are currently at-risk of or experiencing homelessness. The Youth Center offers services in an LGBTQ safe and affirming environment and serves as an entry point to assist youth making the transition from homelessness to housing. Our services include meals clothing support groups a charter high school GED and college prep program an employment preparation training and placement program case management counseling Interim Housing and a transitional living program (TLP). Our community-based programs include services for youth at-home in school or in systems of care.

Job Summary:This position requires a strong customer service background with emphasis on engagement and team participation. Under direct supervision Outreach Specialist V will support program outreach engagements and activities focusing on prevention harm reduction and access to health and mental health services. Outreach Specialist V builds rapport with LGBTQIA youth and young adults to engage them in services.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with planning and execute outreach efforts throughout the greater Los Angeles/Southern California area.
  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with community agencies where program services are conducted.
  • Conduct outreach and interface with clients via social networking sites within appropriate safety parameters.
  • Assist in the development of outreach standards and best practices for programs in mental health services.
  • Assist with survey data analysis and incorporate data analysis in program materials as appropriate.
  • Assist in the development production and revision of all program educational and outreach materials.
  • Assist with volunteer trainings and orientations.
  • Provide appropriate counseling and testing conduct counseling interviews and risk assessments and provide referrals and educational materials as needed.
  • Provide linkage referrals to clients for appropriate services.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date files for trained volunteers.
  • Assist in the marketing of all program and outreach efforts.
  • Prepare assigned portions of monthly and quarterly reports as required by funder and program supervisors as needed.
  • Assist in the recruitment of all volunteers.
  • Provide outreach intervention to group participants and clients as assigned.
  • Provide triage to participants and clients.
  • Participate in all staff meetings.
  • Assist program staff with administrative and clerical duties/responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications and Experience:

  • Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.
  • A passion for the Centers work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in outreach community organizing or project management or equivalent education/certification.
  • Understanding of curriculum implementation and material development.
  • Experience with family/domestic violence or LGBT crime victim population a plus including successful completion or willingness to complete a certification course that satisfies requirements of California Evidence Code 1037.1 a plus.
  • Knowledge of general mental health factors impacting victims of crime.
  • AHA CPR certification.
  • Ability to follow a work plan.
  • Computer skills and knowledge including word processing spreadsheets and database operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to create visually appealing outreach materials and public presence of the program.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally competent services to people living with HIV victims of crime and communities of color.
  • Bilingual skills a plus (English/Spanish fluency preferred).
  • Access to reliable transportation and the ability to be insured.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races ethnicities nationalities sexual orientations gender identities gender expression socio-economic backgrounds religions ages English-speaking abilities immigration status and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
