Instructional Technology and Training Specialist

The Instructional Technology and Training Specialist provides leadership in campus audiovisual technology solutions technology training for staff and faculty and the use of educational technology to support the teaching and learning mission of Illinois College through face-to-face and online courses.

Essential Functions:

The following list of duties is meant to be representative of the work performed in this position. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position if the work is similar related or a logical extension of position responsibilities.

• Provide primary support for troubleshooting repair and maintenance of audiovisual technology on campus.
• Design and provide plans to the CIO for campus-wide audiovisual solutions. These plans should include both the audiovisual technology and furniture required to effectively utilize the technology. The ETM will consult with the Director of Facilities to provide planning and form a budget when additional renovation is requested such as paint flooring ceilings lighting and window coverings.
• Serve as the primary campus programmer for new and existing campus audiovisual solutions. This will include working with outside vendors when necessary to properly design program and deploy solutions.
• Work directly with the CIO to plan acquire implement and monitor the effectiveness of technology-enhanced classrooms instructional software online course management software and lecture capture technology.
• Create and maintain an inventory of all available classroom technology and training videos demonstrating how to use all classrooms on campus.
• Provide faculty with answers to their questions related to educational technology. Formulate answers in language appropriate to each faculty members level of technical expertise.
• Remain knowledgeable about trends and technology related to higher education to make recommendations to the CIO and advise faculty about how educational technology could help them achieve their goals.
• Develop a plan for working with departments about audiovisual technology and training.
• Administer and be the IT teams expert for systems utilized by the faculty not limited to but including Echo360 Moodle and Zoom.
• Coordinate comprehensive support for after-hours and weekend campus events ensuring seamless coverage through direct on-site management or by training scheduling and supervising student workers.
• Serve as the Tier 3 Learning Management System (currently Moodle) support lead. This will include but is not limited to site administration and technical support.
• Train and provide guidance to IT staff members to assist with Tier 2 Moodle requests from faculty staff and students. This would include but not be limited to additional support for Tier 1 along with troubleshooting at the course and resource level within Moodle.
• Train and provide guidance to IT student workers to assist with Tier 1 Moodle requests from faculty staff and students. This would include general access and troubleshooting at the Moodle site level.
• Provide administrative support for faculty and staff towards development of Moodle courses. This includes providing information related to capabilities and limitations of our LMS and exploring new solutions that may enhance our current course environments.
• Train students staff and faculty to effectively use technology products and services and provide training sessions for any new technology IT provides to campus.
• Conduct New Hire IT training for new faculty members.
• Coordinate with IT staff and student workers to coordinate coverage for necessary campus events.
• Manage classroom scheduling within the Events Management System (EMS) and serve as the primary point of contact for the platform.
• Coordinate with Campus Event Managers to ensure audiovisual technology is working and ready for use for events.
• Serve as project manager for selected IT projects.

Nonessential Functions:

• Assist in the development of IT policies and procedures.
• Assist in the smooth operation of IT services which may require participation in special projects during major events such as the opening of each semester or commencement.
• Advise on technology standards for the entire campus.
• Seek professional development opportunities to enhance skills and remain current with evolving technologies.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree required.
• CTS required within 6 months of initial employment.
• Possess and utilize strong interpersonal skills to serve as an ambassador to the faculty for the IT department.
• Intercultural competency: ability to work with a diverse population
• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with faculty and administrators.
• Demonstrate experience with training professionals on technical topics.
• Show the ability to plan organize and execute projects and plans.
• Exhibit a positive can do attitude to providing technology services.
• Demonstrate the ability to work well with a diverse group of staff faculty and students.
• Prior experience supporting faculty in a Higher Education environment preferred.
