The Preschool Assistant Teacher supports daily classroom operations by partnering closely with the Lead Teacher to deliver engaging developmentally appropriate learning experiences. This role plays a critical part in creating a nurturing structured and safety-focused environment that supports childrens social emotional physical and cognitive growth.
In addition to classroom support the Preschool Assistant Teacher contributes to family communication documentation and regulatory compliance in alignment with state local and accrediting agency expectations. When the Lead Teacher is unavailable this position may assume full classroom responsibility.
Core Responsibilities
Classroom Support & Child Supervision (Primary Function approx. 55%)
Provide continuous active supervision of preschool-aged children to ensure their health safety and well-being at all times
Support the implementation of daily lesson plans and schedules aligned with developmentally appropriate practice
Assist with preparing and carrying out hands-on learning activities circle time small group instruction and indoor/outdoor experiences
Foster a classroom climate that promotes curiosity independence creativity and positive social interactions
Help maintain an organized clean and visually welcoming learning environment
Observe childrens behavior and development and report relevant information to the Lead Teacher
Step into the Lead Teacher role when required and maintain full classroom accountability
Family & Team Engagement (Approx. 20%)
Build positive professional relationships with families through daily greeting updates and ongoing communication
Share classroom information using the ProCare system and direct verbal communication as appropriate
Work collaboratively with teaching staff to support consistency in classroom routines and expectations
Accept guidance feedback and direction from Lead Teachers and program leadership
Protect the confidentiality of children families and organizational information
Documentation & Assessment Support (Approx. 10%)
Assist with maintaining required classroom and child records
Support ongoing child assessment using Teaching Strategies Gold including observations and documentation
Help organize and maintain individual child portfolios (photos work samples benchmarks and progress records)
Participate in preparation for parent-teacher conferences as needed
Program & Professional Responsibilities
Participate in required trainings in-service sessions and professional development activities
Maintain awareness of and compliance with applicable standards including DFPS Minimum Standards Texas Rising Star CACFP SA Metro Health and NAEYC guidelines
Attend staff meetings planning meetings and curriculum meetings as scheduled
Follow all health safety and sanitation procedures including communicable disease and cleanliness protocols
Perform other duties as assigned to support program quality and operations
Qualifications:
Required:
At least 18 years of age
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to meet physical and mental demands of the role with or without reasonable accommodation
Preferred:
2 years of experience working with children ages 05 in a licensed or accredited early childhood setting
CDA early childhood certification or associates/bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education (completed or in progress)
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
