Role Overview

The Cloud Platform Operations Lead is responsible for managing cloud infrastructure operations across AWS (primary focus) Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Microsoft Azure.

The role ensures cloud environments are secure scalable cost-efficient and compliant while enabling modern DevOps and automation practices.

This position leads operational excellence across IaaS PaaS hybrid cloud platforms and cloud-native services with a strong emphasis on Amazon Web Services (AWS) environments including EC2-based workloads PaaS services VMware Cloud and Nutanix Cloud deployments.

The Lead will design and implement small-to-mid-scale cloud solutions act as a technical decision-maker and mentor cloud engineering teams to deliver reliable and scalable infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Infrastructure Leadership

  • Lead provisioning management and optimisation of cloud infrastructure across AWS (primary) OCI and Azure
  • Design and implement AWS-centric architectures including:
    • EC2-based compute platforms
    • AWS-native PaaS services
    • Hybrid cloud integrations
  • Deploy and manage workloads across:
    • Amazon EC2
    • Cloud-native PaaS environments
    • VMware Cloud
    • Nutanix Cloud
  • Oversee infrastructure lifecycle management across multiple cloud platforms
  • Design and deliver small-to-mid-scale cloud infrastructure solutions
  • Provide technical leadership and architecture direction across cloud operations teams

Cloud Governance & Landing Zones

  • Design and maintain cloud landing zones across AWS Azure and OCI
  • Implement policy-as-code guardrails
  • Establish tagging strategies naming conventions and quota management standards
  • Maintain regional and organisational cloud governance models
  • Ensure adherence to organisational security policies and regulatory standards

Infrastructure-as-Code & Automation

  • Implement Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices using:
    • Terraform
    • CLI-based automation
    • PowerShell / scripting tools
  • Maintain IaC pipelines with validation controls such as:
    • terraform validate
    • terraform plan gating
    • Policy enforcement (OPA / Conftest)
  • Implement drift detection and automated remediation mechanisms
  • Develop automation frameworks for cloud provisioning and operational workflows

Cloud Networking Architecture

Design and maintain secure cloud networking architectures including:

  • VPC/VNet design and segmentation
  • Hub-and-spoke network architectures
  • Routing peering and subnet management
  • DNS architecture
  • Private endpoints and secure connectivity
  • Hybrid networking integration
  • Global load balancing
  • Cross-cloud connectivity

Security & Identity Management

  • Design and implement cloud IAM standards
  • Configure SSO integration and identity federation
  • Enforce least privilege access models
  • Implement privileged access management controls
  • Manage encryption strategies using:
    • KMS
    • HSM systems
  • Implement cloud security baselines aligned with:
    • CIS
    • NIST
    • ISO frameworks
  • Support vulnerability remediation and posture management initiatives

DevOps & CI/CD Integration

  • Integrate cloud platforms into DevOps pipelines
  • Support CI/CD workflows for infrastructure and application delivery
  • Enable automated infrastructure provisioning and validation
  • Promote infrastructure lifecycle automation across environments

Monitoring Observability & Operations

  • Implement centralised monitoring and observability platforms
  • Enable collection of:
    • Logs
    • Metrics
    • Traces
  • Integrate monitoring tools with:
    • Incident management systems
    • SIEM/SOAR platforms
  • Develop operational dashboards and alerting strategies
  • Maintain operational readiness across cloud environments

FinOps & Cost Optimisation

  • Monitor cloud usage and budgets
  • Implement cost optimisation strategies including:
    • Resource rightsizing
    • Reserved Instances
    • Savings Plans
    • Cost allocation tagging
  • Support chargeback and showback models
  • Drive continuous cost efficiency initiatives

Operations & Incident Management

  • Lead cloud-related incident response activities
  • Maintain operational runbooks and recovery documentation
  • Define and maintain:
    • RTO (Recovery Time Objective)
    • RPO (Recovery Point Objective)
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing
  • Support operational continuity initiatives

Container & Cloud-Native Platforms

  • Manage Kubernetes clusters including:
    • Amazon EKS
    • Azure AKS
    • Oracle OKE
  • Oversee:
    • Cluster lifecycle management
    • Node pool configuration
    • Autoscaling
    • Admission controllers
    • Container security policies

Hybrid Cloud Platforms

  • Support and manage hybrid cloud deployments including:
    • VMware-based cloud environments
    • Nutanix Cloud infrastructure
  • Enable migration and modernisation strategies across hybrid platforms
  • Maintain infrastructure interoperability across multiple cloud platforms

Team Leadership & Technical Mentorship

  • Mentor and guide L2 Cloud Support Engineers
  • Act as technical lead and solution decision-maker
  • Provide architecture guidance for small-to-mid-scale cloud designs
  • Organise on-call rotations and support readiness planning
  • Promote knowledge sharing across cloud engineering teams
  • Support skill development and mentoring programs
