Primary Purpose
Pacific Sacramento Surgery Center LLC ( PSSC ) a subsidiary of University of the Pacific is launching a new Ambulatory Surgery Center ( ASC ) in Sacramento California and is hiring our inaugural Director of Nursing Services. Reporting to the Medical Director the Director of Nursing ( DON ) is responsible for the overall clinical operations of the Ambulatory Surgery Center ( ASC ) including Pre-Op Operating Rooms (OR) and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit ( PACU ). The DON ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards and effective supervision of all clinical staff. The DON provides limited administrative support and may act in the Administrators capacity only in their absence.
Essential Functions
Clinical Leadership & Oversight Directs all nursing activities in Pre-Op OR and PACU . Ensures compliance with ASC standards Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services ( CMS ) Conditions for Coverage state regulations and accrediting body requirements. Develops updates and implements clinical policies and procedures. Identifies risks and initiates corrective action. Evaluates clinical staff competency and performance. Ensures age-appropriate and specialty-appropriate nursing care. Serves as liaison between physicians anesthesia and clinical staff. Daily Clinical Operations Ensures safe patient flow through Pre-Op OR and PACU . Creates and manages daily staff assignments. Monitors equipment and supplies for readiness. Supports efficient case flow and resolves clinical operations issues. Ensures compliance with sterility cleanliness and infection control standards. Oversees patient safety and emergency preparedness. Staff Management & Development Recruits hires trains supervises and evaluates clinical staff. Creates and maintains clinical staffing schedules. Oversees annual competencies and in-service education. Promotes professional growth and collaboration. Provides comprehensive orientation to new staff. Quality Improvement (QI) & Compliance Leads the ASC Quality Improvement Program. Coordinates QI data collection and reporting. Presents QI results at MEC and leadership meetings. Identifies quality issues and implements corrective actions. Supports regulatory compliance and survey readiness. Risk Management Oversees incident reporting and investigations. Monitors risk trends and implement preventive measures. Works with Administrator to strengthen safety processes. Updates policies based on risk analysis. Infection Control (Infection Control Nurse Role) Directs the Infection Control Program. Develops reviews and enforces infection control policies. Ensures OSHA compliance and proper personal protective equipment ( PPE ) use. Conducts investigations and staff education on infection control. Administrative Duties Assists with credentialing HR compliance and onboarding. Maintains employee health records and licensure verification. Supports policy development and administrative documentation. Coordinates regulatory and accreditation survey readiness. Provides input on budgeting and capital needs. Acts as Administrator in their absence. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Licenses: Bachelor of science in nursing ( BSN ) from an accredited school of nursing. Current RN license in the State of California. Current Basic Life Support ( BLS ) certification. Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support ( ACLS ) certification. Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support ( PALS ) certification. Experience: Three (3) years of nursing experience in perioperative PACU OR procedural ambulatory or related surgical setting. One (1) year of clinical management experience. Knowledge of: State federal and accrediting body regulations. Standards related to ambulatory surgery center. Surgical procedures and practices. Perioperative nursing practice.
Preferred Qualifications
Ambulatory Surgery Center ( ASC ) experience preferred but not required for strong candidates with relevant surgical or procedural experience. Leadership or charge nurse experience including precepting mentoring or team coordination. Experience with Quality Improvement (QI) Infection Control or Risk Management. Experience participating in regulatory or accreditation surveys ( AAAHC Joint Commission CMS ). Current Perioperative Nurse ( CNOR ) certification. Maintains confidentiality of patient and organizational information. Demonstrates professionalism leadership and accountability. Participates in education and professional development. Supports proper chain of command and communication. Ability to: Demonstrate strong leadership interpersonal communication and effective delegation to support and manage clinical teams. Build and maintain positive working relationships with providers physicians dentists staff students residents hospital partners and the wider healthcare community. Communicate clearly and professionally in verbal written and public-speaking contexts ensuring patient-centered communication and service. Exhibit excellent organization attention to detail and multitasking skills including the ability to remain focused amid frequent interruptions. Work independently prioritize responsibilities and meet established deadlines. Remain calm under pressure and manage inherently stressful situations with tact and professionalism. Make sound reasonable decisions and respond promptly to clinical concerns. Foster a positive collaborative team-oriented environment.
