Maintenance & Utility Supervisor – Agro-Processing Plant
Job Summary
ROLE MISSION
Ensure maximum equipment uptime and uninterrupted factory operations by owning preventive maintenance systems rapid breakdown recovery and reliable utility performance (power water steam and production systems). This role is responsible for keeping the factory running not fixing it after failure.
CORE OUTCOME RESPONSIBILITY
- The Maintenance & Utilities Supervisor is accountable for:
- 95% equipment uptime across all production lines
- Zero avoidable production stoppages due to mechanical failure
- Fully functional preventive maintenance system (not reactive repairs)
- Stable and cost-efficient utility supply (electricity water steam where applicable)
- Rapid breakdown response and root cause elimination (not repeated failures)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Preventive Maintenance System Ownership
- Design and implement structured preventive maintenance schedules for all plant equipment
- Ensure strict adherence to maintenance cycles (daily weekly monthly quarterly)
- Transition maintenance from reactive repair mode to planned reliability system
- Identify and eliminate recurring equipment failures
- Breakdown Response & Root Cause Analysis
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and utility failures quickly and effectively
- Lead root cause analysis for all major breakdowns
- Ensure corrective actions prevent recurrence
- Minimize production downtime through rapid intervention
- Utilities Management (Critical Function)
- Ensure stable operation of all utility systems:
- Power supply systems (grid generator backup systems).
- Water systems and treatment units.
- Wastewater handling systems.
- Boilers dryers and steam systems (if applicable).
- Monitor consumption efficiency and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Prevent utility-related production disruptions.
- Equipment Reliability & Performance Optimization
- Maintain full operational readiness of conveyors pumps rotating equipment industrial dryers processing machinery.
- Monitor equipment performance trends and wear patterns
- Recommend upgrades or replacements based on performance data
- Installation & Commissioning
- Supervise installation of new machinery and spare parts
- Ensure correct commissioning and calibration of equipment
- Validate operational readiness before handover to production
- Safety & Compliance
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with:
- occupational safety standards
- environmental regulations
- internal company safety policies
- Enforce safe working practices across maintenance team
- Prevent unsafe equipment operation from entering production line
- Maintenance Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate and structured maintenance logs:
- breakdown records
- repair history
- spare parts usage
- maintenance schedules
Provide regular reports on:
- downtime causes
- maintenance performance
- equipment reliability trends
- Spare Parts & Resource Management
- Track and manage critical spare parts inventory
- Ensure availability of high-risk replacement components
- Reduce downtime caused by spare parts delays
- Recommend procurement priorities based on failure risk
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify technical improvements to increase efficiency and reduce downtime
- Recommend upgrades to machinery systems and processes
- Support cost reduction through energy and equipment optimization
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Hard Requirements
- HND or Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 35 years hands-on maintenance experience in FMCG manufacturing OR agro-processing OR industrial production environments.
Technical Competence (MUST HAVE)
Candidate must demonstrate:
- Strong knowledge of rotating equipment conveyors pumps boilers / industrial heating systems industrial dryers
- Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance systems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical manuals.
- Hands-on troubleshooting and repair capability (not supervisory-only experience)
