JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

This is a seasonal position startingin June ending in August with approximately 30 hours per week.

Under the supervision of the OCC Director and/or Program Coordinator; the summer programcounselor is assigned to coordinate and supervise young participants atCarbuncle beach facility. The counselor will lead participants in recreationaland educational activities such as athletics game play crafting etc. assistingparticipants as needed while engaging and interacting with their group and ensuringthat program equipment is used correctly.

Responsibilities
The Counselor is responsible for the following (at minimum plus other duties as assigned):

Plan and implement outdoor activities or sports for groupsof participants.

Create weekly or daily schedules taking into accountchildrens age groups and interests.

Lead recreational and educational activities (such as athleticssplash pad play or crafting).

Escort and oversee children in all areas of the CarbunclePark grounds and facility.

Educate participants through games and explorations.

Set up activity supplies and pack away all supplies whenactivity has ended and maintain equipment.

Maintain a clean environment wherever your group isstationed. Ensure backpack area is tidy at all times. Sweep lunchroom floor andwash tables.

Resolve occasional disagreements between children andaddress behavioral issues in a positive and constructive manner.

Make sure all safety rules are followed.

Ensure site is clean and that participants dont litterrecreational areas or nature.

Perform first aid or take care of injuries as needed.

Keep accurate incident logs including first aid reports andbehavioral write-ups.

Other beach/facility related dutiesas assigned.

Check-in children every morning andreport any absences to Program Coordinator

Be aware of where your participantsare at all times. Place yourself strategically in locations to allow you toobserve all of your group at the same time.

Ensure authorized pick-up ofchildren; checking IDs against list of authorized names.

Act as a positive role model interms of language body language sportsmanship engagement with participantsand parents and the general public positive attitude respectful behavior

Maintain confidentiality of staffprogram participants and visitors.

Supervisory Responsibility
None.

Work Environment:

Counselorsare required to work at a freshwater lakefront where they are exposed toinclement weather conditions often with insufficient protection from the may be presented by naturally occurring and regularly changingconditions such as water temperature debris and uneven sand.

Physical Demands:

Abilityto push pull or lift 20 pounds (frequently) 50 pounds (occasionally).

Abilityto stand or sit for long periods of time in varying outside air temperaturesand climate conditions.

Musthave sufficient hearing to perform the duties of the job.

Whileperforming duties of this job employee is occasionally required to climb orbalance; jump stoop kneel or crouch.

Abilityto walk run jump or stand on uneven terrain.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
Part time (20-35 hours/week) 11-14 weeks desired.

Required Education and Experience

16years of age or older.

Proven experience as Counselor orsimilar role working with children

Familiarity with various outdooractivities

Patient ready and willing tolisten and give undivided attention to the children.

Organizational and communicationskills

Must enjoy working with children

Energetic and positive personality

Ability to meet the physical demandsof the job (strength and stamina to follow strenuous activities like hikingrunning crouching or carrying children)

First aid- and CPR-certifiedpreferred

High school diploma

You will need to pass a drug orbackground test according to local laws

Punctual and reliable
