Christel House Academy West is now accepting applications for a Media Center Specialist for the 2026-2027 school year. Christel House Schools is a growing network of high performing charter schools dedicated to serving low-income urban students in Indianapolis.
FLSA: Full-Time; Non-Exempt
DAYS OF SERVICE: 202 Days REPORTS TO: Principal
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Organize and maintain the routine operation of the media center; receive process circulate and shelve print and non-print materials.
Assist students in learning basic information skills including the use of the library catalog and reference sources.
Assist students and teachers in locating and selecting appropriate materials.
Prepare and send overdue notices as required.
Input data to computerized catalog.
Inspect materials for damage and request or perform repairs as necessary.
Perform clerical tasks such as shelving and moving books and filing.
Assist with book fairs and other similar activities.
Assist with collecting materials for teachers and answer basic reference questions including the use of print and non-print materials.
Maintain an environment that is conducive to active and participatory learning.
Model and encourage the use of media materials to engage students and ensure equitable access to information.
Prepare forms bulletins and letters pertaining to media center functions.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural economic and ability backgrounds.
Create displays to promote books.
Participate in appropriate professional activities
Other duties assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates degree or college credit hours equivalent to an associates degree
Experience working in a library setting.
Ability and willingness to work collaboratively; maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships
High level of organizational skills.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
An agreement with the mission statement and goals of Christel House Schools
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
Ability to reach with hands and arms
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
