Job Summary

Department Overview:

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madisons public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic recreational arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction MSCR on the Move arts & enrichment classes youth summer camps sports camps & clinics adult & 50 fitness adult sport leagues including pickleball softball and tennis and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports pontoon trips camping orienteering and challenge courses.

As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary middle and high schools Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment homework/academic clubs drama dance skiing soccer basketball volleyball cross country and much more!

Anticipated Hours Per Week

35-40 (during June-August)

Schedule:

Full-time varies between the hours of 7:45am-4:45pm.

Salary/Wage Range:

Hourly $17.00 to $18.75

Program Description:

MSCRs Fascination Station Day Camps are full-day programs with half-day options for families providing in-depth exposure to specific topics in a fun enriching environment. Camps are designed to provide a variety of fascinating choices for campers. Individual camp structures vary based on the nature of the program but generally include small-group activities developing continuity throughout the week. Some themes may include special presenters or a field trip.

Job Description & Duties:

Fuel your passion for learning and inspire elementary-aged kids at Fascination Station Day Camps! Our day camp programs dive deep into captivating topics sparking curiosity and fostering exploration. Create engaging activities and make a difference in kids lives this summer!
Were looking for leaders with experience in facilitating theme-based activities. Energetic leaders to guide campers inspire new interests and be positive role models. We seek enthusiastic team players with classroom management skills.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for facilitating movement activities including a variety of sports games and more in an engaging manner based on weekly themes.
Adapt/modify all lesson plans to meet the age and needs of all campers.
Responsible for ensuring safety and active supervision of ALL CAMPERS AT ALL TIMES.
Track participants throughout the day maintain sight and sound supervision of all participants.
Responsible for helping with implementation of program managing transitions filling in time with kids supervising during drop off/pick up.
Manage group and participant behaviors address behavior issues as they arise.
Assist with camp maintenance (cleanliness organization etc.) and administrative tasks as needed (attendance communication with families etc.)
Create enthusiastic engaging and inclusive environment for campers.
Engage in all camp activities

Program Dates:

  • Mandatory Staff Training: June 12 15-18. No training 6/19
  • Camp Dates: 6/22-8/14 (NO CAMP on 7/3)

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be available for mandatory training June 12 15-18.
Staff cannot miss more than one week of camp.
1 years experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds in a day camp or education setting.
1 years experience creating lesson and activity plans for elementary-aged kids
Must be creative & enthusiastic.
Flexibility and ability to adapt to schedule changes weather etc.
Interest in learning about and doing a wide range of movement-based activities such as sports and games with participants
Staff must be able to engage with campers for every activity and maintain enthusiasm.
Dependability teamwork and enthusiasm required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Early education experience (classwork professional) and lesson/programming experience.
American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR and First Aid certification is an asset.
Ability to speak Spanish or other languages aside from English preferred.
