DESCRIPTION and REQUIREMENTS:
The Literacy Specialist provides differentiated and targeted instruction intervention and assessment in grades K to 3 through a combination of intervention and classroom collaboration. The candidate must possess an understanding of students with diverse learning profiles and should be familiar with neuropsychological and educational evaluations as well as creating and working with differentiated student learning plans. Additionally the candidate must have a strong background in working with teachers to modify their instruction to meet students needs. Finally the candidate should be confident partnering with families guiding them in understanding how to support their childs learning both in and out of school. We actively seek candidates whose lived experiences reflect and enhance the racial cultural and gender diversity of our school community.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Work cooperatively with teachers to plan and implement differentiation
- Identify learning needs through observation and assessments
- Write learning plans with specific goals for students receiving intervention
- Provide individual and small group intervention in literacy
- Meet with families about student progress including parent-teacher conferences
- Write winter and spring reports summarizing intervention provided to students
- Serve as a resource for families providing ideas for tutors and summer programs
- Attend team meetings to monitor student progress and suggest strategies
- Work collaboratively with the Student Support Team and Educational Directors
QUALIFICATIONS:
- MA degree in Education with concentration in Reading Literacy or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years teaching and/or intervention experience
- Certification in methods such as Wilson or Orton-Gillingham
- Familiarity with Montessori or experience working in Montessori classrooms
- Experience using a variety of assessments including Fountas and Pinnell Reading system and DIBELS
- Experience with Fundations or comparable phonics curriculum

Starting salaries for full-time teachers typically range from $57000 to $90000 with the low end reflecting less experienced educators and the higher end recognizing those with over 20 years of teaching expertise.
