ABOUT MIRIAMS KITCHEN
Miriams Kitchen (MK) is a mission-driven nonprofit working to end chronic homelessness in Washington D.C. through meaningful relationships high-quality meals and holistic support services. We advocate for permanent supportive housing as a long-term solution while meeting immediate needs through nourishing meals and high-quality social services for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Bridge Housing program is a non-congregate bridge housing program that opened in September 2025. Its primary goal is to help residents exit to permanent housing within 36 months. The program serves up to 190 residents at full capacity in semi-private dormitory-style rooms is open 24/7 and serves adults of all genders. Target populations include individuals matched to a permanent housing resource and those who cannot be adequately served by existing low-barrier shelters. All residents must be referred through city systems.
The Resident Assistant is an essential member of an interdisciplinary team dedicated to advocating for and supporting residents of E Street. This role ensures the safety of the building enforces program rules serves as part of the emergency response team and maintains close communication with case managers to ensure residents receive the services they need.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Resident Support & Engagement
- Develop positive rapport with each resident through routine contact and communication.
- Provide roving coverage throughout the facility.
- Respond to immediate client needs help de-escalate crisis situations help resolve conflicts and enforce program rules.
- Conduct room inspections per program rules to ensure cleanliness.
Care Coordination & Documentation
- Provide support by completing care coordination tasks such as service referrals and residency forms.
- Assist in the implementation of case plans and document client interactions in HMIS.
- Work with the case management team to ensure all required service delivery is documented and to identify strengths and areas for improvement in data entry and quality.
Incident Reporting & Compliance
- Immediately report serious incidents allegations and sensitive program information to the Operations Manager.
- Complete incident reports accurately and in a timely manner.
- Adhere to all agency policies and procedures.
Teamwork & Professional Development
- Participate in program team meetings staff meetings and supervision meetings as required.
- Build and maintain quality working relationships with colleagues and internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in program quality improvement activities to enhance policies procedures and client and program outcomes.
- Attend all required trainings per contract requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Familiarity with the homeless services and housing landscape in Washington D.C.
- Understanding of the structural and systemic causes of homelessness.
- Knowledge experience and ability to connect with individuals experiencing mental health challenges and/or substance use issues.
- Strong interest in and commitment to ending chronic homelessness in D.C.
- Strong communication skills and professional sense of boundaries.
- Flexibility and comfort working in a fast-paced environment with a diverse population of clients with a variety of backgrounds and lived experiences.
- Proficiency with computers databases and documentation tools.
- Ability to lift and/or carry up to 20 lbs.
- Spanish language proficiency preferred.
Experience
- Prior experience working in services related to homelessness mental health substance use HIV/AIDS and/or case management for vulnerable populations.
