Position Summary:
CTO is an innovative organization within Applied Materials focused on identifying incubating and commercializing promising technologies in semiconductors and adjacent markets. The group is unique given the opportunity to work for a large company but attain the experience of a startup like environment evaluating the business models and providing the right strategic and financial support to see the incubation opportunities turn into large scale growth programs for the company.
This high-impact role serves as the primary finance business partner to CTO leadership providing end-to-end financial oversight and actionable insights across operational plans and strategic initiatives. The position gets strong support from Finance Center of Excellence (COE) team to ensure efficient execution enabling this role to focus on business partnership scenario analysis and decision support.
The role also leads FP&A activities for both CTO and PPB translating complex financial and operational data into clear executive-ready narratives for reviews and decision forums. Success requires high integrity strong judgment analytical rigor and the ability to balance strategic thinking with attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary finance business partner and trusted advisor for the CTO organization.
- Deliver regular financial updates and lead operating reviews with CTO and PPB leadership.
- Build financial models scenario analyses and valuations to support new programs and strategic decisions.
- Own financial performance management for CTO and maintain strong visibility to PPB financials (P&L balance sheet and cash flow).
- Lead quarterly forecasting annual planning and long-range planning processes for CTO (and related FP&A support for PPB).
- Coordinate with COE and Accounting for close QBRs and executive/commit deliverables and transactional support; ensure data quality and controllership discipline.
- Develop working technical fluency across R&D initiatives to assess milestone progress anticipate spend impacts and proactively surface risks/opportunities.
- Support commercial enablement through contract reviews and business model discussions ensuring profitable market adoption.
- Monitor capital and operating spend versus plan; explain variances identify timing and scope risks and escalate material issues with clarity and urgency.
- Drive closure and data integrity by partnering with program owners engineering managers and technical leads to resolve gaps inconsistencies and open actions.
- Partner with corporate teams on audit SOX trade tax and statutory reporting
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Finance Accounting Economics or a related field; MBA and/or CPA preferred.
- 8 years of progressive finance experience including FP&A business partnership and/or controllership; experience supporting technology/product organizations.
- Strong command of financial statements (P&L balance sheet cash flow) planning/forecasting and internal controls/compliance (including SOX).
- Demonstrated ability to build models and tell the storyturning complex data into clear executive-ready insights and recommendations.
- Experience with ERP and planning tools; ability to drive process improvements across systems.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

NoThe salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location hire grade job-related knowledge skills experience and with consideration of internal equity of our current team addition to a comprehensive benefits package candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program as applicable.
For all sales roles the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
