This position includes training and competency for non-laboratory hospital staff in waived and non-waived testing following the regulations and guidelines set by Joint Commission and CLIA standards.
Essential Functions:
- Training and competency for waived point of care tests such as: Urinalysis dipsticks pregnancy tests rapid strep tests pH paper glucometer HemoCue and Occult blood rapid tests. (10%)
- Training and competency for Moderate complex tests such as: EPOC blood gas and chemistries iSTAT coagulation and Provider Performed Microscopy Procedure (PPMP). (10%)
- Performs quality control procedures as required for waived and non-waived tests. (5%)
- Travel to offsite locations such as Ambulatory Care Services (ACS) clinics School Based Health Centers (SBHC) allied clinics and Winter Park Medical Center. (5%)
- Maintains point of care instrumentation as required by procedure or manufacturers recommended guidelines. Identifies problems and either performs the necessary adjustments or conducts maintenance. Maintains records of instrumentation maintenance. (5%)
- Manages oversite of inventory for all point of care locations. (5%)
- Utilizes resources to troubleshoot issues with instruments interfaces tests and more. (5%)
- Maintains point of care interfaces: Telcor-QML EPOC EDM iSTAT DE NovaNet and MediaLab. (5%)
- Utilizes resources for multitasking attention to detail and organization of large amounts information. (5%)
- Follows safety life safety and infection control procedures for self patients and others at all times. (5%)
- Participates in training and teaching of new staff students or residents in the laboratory as needed. Acts as a mentor to new hires and junior staff members by being available to answer questions and problem solve. (5%)
- Participates in required competency continuing education and proficiency testing within the required timelines. (5%)
- Provides assistance to the supervisors in a timely manner. (5%)
- Provides input to the supervisors as needed for policy and procedure updates. (5%)
- Promotes positive interpersonal relationships with fellow employees physicians patients and visitors. Treats each individual with courtesy dignity empathy and respect. Consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications as per the Denver Health code of Conduct. (5%)
- Advises and consults with the supervisor any unresolved issues or complaints and is involved in problem solving as needed. (5%)
- Assists with projects such as correlation studies new test or analyzer validations customer satisfaction survey scores or other departmental needs as assigned. (5%)
- Assists with coordination of the workflow between laboratory and outside departments which may include attending outside department meetings as a representative of the laboratory. (5%)
Education:
- Bachelors Degree Required
Work Experience:
- 1-3 years A minimum of one year of experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory performing clinical laboratory or point of care testing Required
Licenses:
- MLSASCP-Medical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent - ASCP - American Society for Clinical Pathology Required
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with heavy multitasking problem solving and organization skills.
- Ability to speak in small or large group trainings.
- Knowledge of moderately complex and waived laboratory tests processes and testing procedures.
- Knowledge of quality control procedures to maintain/ensure testing integrity.
- Knowledge of safety and infection control practices to ensure a safe environment of care.
- Ability to handle patient specimens and laboratory equipment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to perpetuate teamwork.
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve independently of supervisor.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance in quality control and competency requirements.
- Good communication and customer relation skills to ensure patient safety and quality processes in the laboratory.
- Basic computer and hospital/laboratory information system skills required.
- Prefer experience using EPIC Beaker laboratory information system.
