Role Summary
The Resident Medical Officer (RMO) will provide on-site clinical support emergency response and patient assessment services within a diagnostic and outpatient care environment.
The role is critical in ensuring patient safety effective triaging timely medical intervention and appropriate referral pathways for patients requiring imaging emergency care or specialist management.
Key Responsibilities
1. Emergency Medical Cover
- Provide immediate medical care during patient emergencies (e.g. contrast reactions syncope acute deterioration)
- Lead initial resuscitation efforts in line with Basic Life Support (BLS) / Advanced Life Support (ALS) protocols
- Stabilize patients prior to transfer to higher-level care facilities
2. Walk-in Patient Assessment & Management
- Assess patients presenting without formal referrals or imaging requests
- Take focused clinical histories and perform physical examinations
- Initiate appropriate basic investigations (within facility scope including imaging/lab tests)
- Provide initial management for minor and acute medical conditions
- Refer patients appropriately to specialists or tertiary facilities when required
3. Clinical Support to Imaging Services
- Assess patient suitability for contrast-based imaging procedures
- Obtain and document informed consent where necessary
- Support radiographers and nursing staff in managing high-risk patients
- Be available during higher-risk procedures as clinically indicated
4. Patient Safety & Clinical Governance
- Ensure strict adherence to clinical protocols and safety standards
- Participate in incident reporting and clinical audit processes
- Maintain accurate timely and complete clinical documentation
- Contribute to the development and review of SOPs for outpatient and emergency care
5. Referral & Care Coordination
- Coordinate timely transfer of patients requiring escalation of care
- Provide clear clinical documentation and communication for referred cases
- Ensure continuity of care through proper handover processes
Qualifications & Requirements
- MBBS (or equivalent medical qualification)
- Valid registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria
- Minimum of 5 years post-NYSC clinical experience
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) (Advanced Life Support is an added advantage)
- Experience in emergency medicine general practice or acute care settings is highly desirable
