POSITION SPECIFICS

The Cognitive Aging and Neuroimaging Lab in the College of the Liberal Arts at Penn State is hiring a full-time Human Research Technologist to assist in their investigation of the effects of aging on episodic memory using both behavioral and neuroimaging (fMRI) methods.

The Human Research Technologist will work together with a team of graduate and undergraduate students on grant-funded projects related to understanding and improving associative memories in younger and older adults.

TheHuman Research Technologistwill playan important rolein the labs work bybeing responsible fortheday-to-day management of the lab.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day management tasks of lab activities (e.g. scheduling and recruiting participants training and supervising undergraduate research assistants)

  • Creating experimental and laboratory protocols and procedures

  • Programming of studies

  • Data collection and analysis (including both behavioral and neuroimaging).

Opportunity for authorship on projects is also available.

Current projects in the lab center around understanding the cognitive and neural processes underlying false memories and associative memories. With respect to cognitive aging our research examines neural markers of age-related cognitive decline as well as mechanisms supporting neural compensation.

Regarding neuroimaging we utilize univariate multivariate (pattern classification representational similarity analyses) functional connectivity and structural analytical approaches in our investigation of encoding and retrieval processes underlying memory performance.

Information about all of our research including ongoing projects can be found on our lab website at with programming languages (e.g. MATLAB R Python) and analysis of fMRI data is preferred.

MINIMUM EDUCATION WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Associate Degree No prior relevant work experience required; previous relevant work experience accepted in lieu of education. Required Certifications: None

A Bachelors degree in psychology neuroscience computer science or related fields as well as excellent interpersonal skills are preferred. Those who will be receiving their degree at the conclusion of the Spring 2026 semester/term are eligible to apply.

The salary range for this position including all possible grades is $31600.00 - $45800.00.
