Description

A core member of the Counseling Centers clinical team reporting to the Director the Neurodivergence Specialist is a New York State licensed clinical counseling or school psychologist with specialized training in clinical work with neurodivergent individuals. The Neurodivergence Specialist delivers direct clinical and psychoeducational services to neurodivergent Iona University students.

Clinical services include individual psychotherapy group psychotherapy walk-in sessions triage crisis intervention emergency evaluation and consultation. Additional responsibilities include the provision of clinical training and supervision to externs and fellows development and delivery of psychoeducational outreach and training programs and materials contribution to reporting documents participation in select campus events and meetings and engagement in all aspects of Counseling Center operations as assigned.

Psychoeducational responsibilities include serving as the instructor of Gael Chat Social Communication a weekly group for neurodivergent students which offers an experiential curriculum focused on social skills communication and emotional awareness; delivering engaging psychoeducational programs and workshops; and advising the Neurodiversity Club. The Neurodivergence Specialist assists with the development and delivery of faculty and student leader training and takes part in consultation with college faculty and administration related to student mental health concerns. The Neurodivergence Specialist is part of the Counseling Center clinical team and participates in Division of Enrollment Management & Student Affairs events and meetings as assigned.

The Neurodivergence Specialist is a full-time 12-month position that is in-person with participation in rotation of limited remote hours on a scheduled basis.

Experience and skill in providing psychotherapy to clients on the autism spectrum clients with learning and attentional disorders anxiety disorders and clients needing support with executive functioning is required. Established skills in CBT DBT and/or ACT are required.

Responsibilities:

  • To provide direct clinical services including individual psychotherapy to neurodivergent and other assigned student clients group psychotherapy crisis intervention consultation and referral walk-in and triage and risk assessment.
  • To serve as instructor of the Gael Chat Social Communication psychoeducational course including all aspects of course development delivery management and evaluation.
  • To develop and deliver targeted psychoeducational programs including groups workshops and community-building events focused on the needs of neurodivergent students; to serve as Advisor to the Neurodiversity Club; to create psychoeducational materials and content pertaining to neurodivergence and other assigned topics.
  • To provide neurodivergence-focused training didactic seminars workshops and case consultation within the Center and to campus partners (faculty staff student leaders etc.) as assigned.
  • To provide clinical supervision to graduate externs.
  • To participate in on-call rotation providing expert crisis consultation by phone during student mental health emergencies.
  • To document all professional activities in clinical notes and other Center documents in a clear and timely fashion; to contribute to policy and reporting documents as assigned; to participate in University and Divisional events and meetings as assigned.



Qualifications

1. Valid New York State license to practice clinical psychology counseling psychology or school psychology.

2. Experience providing psychotherapeutic services to neurodivergent individuals.

3. Experience providing psychotherapy to emerging adults adolescents and/or adults.

4. Experience assessing treating and monitoring clients in crisis and with threat-to-self behaviors.

5. Competency in providing CBT DBT and/or ACT.
