South Shore Community Action Council Inc. (SSCAC) a private non-profit community action agency provides a range of services that help improve the opportunities and well-being of low-income individuals and families throughout the South Shore.
SSCAC runs a range of programs in the areas of nutrition and food assistance home energy and utility assistance energy conservation assistance early education and family support transportation for the elderly and disabled and income maximization.
Founded in 1965 we have grown to assist 29000 low-income individuals of all ages each year from the South Shore South Coast Cape Cod and the Islands.
In addition to our main office located in Plymouth we operate 5 Early Education centers (Plymouth Marshfield Wareham Hyannis West Yarmouth) 3 Fuel Assistance intake offices (Plymouth Mashpee Marthas Vineyard) and our Food Distribution Center (Plymouth).
Tasks
Controller
South Shore Community Action Council Inc. (SSCAC) a private non-profit working to end poverty on the South Shore is actively seeking a qualified Controller to join our team at our main Obery Street offices in Plymouth. The Controller will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day finance operations of SSCAC which has an annual budget of $30 million and managing a financial team of 5-6 staff members.
Core Duties
- Oversight of all accounts payable accounts receivable and general ledger account transactions and reporting systems to ensure compliance with applicable GAAP standards and funding regulations/requirements.
- Prepare and oversee account reconciliations of expenditure revenue and balance sheet accounts including resolving financial discrepancies monthly.
- Prepare monthly interim financial statements and program financial reports.
- Make recommendations to the CFO to ensure appropriate accounting practices and compliance with established financial policies and procedures.
- Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all organizational levels; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.
- Leverage strengths of current finance team members help to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop and implement training programs to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.
- Maintain the accounting systems and oversee the updating and implementing of new modules as required.
- Other duties necessary to support the agencys fiscal goals as deemed by the CFO.
Core Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in accounting required; CPA preferred.
- At least 7 years of full-cycle accounting experience ideally with a complex non-profit with multiple Federal/State contracts.
- Strong interpersonal skills and proficient written and verbal communication skills required.
- Commitment to recruiting mentoring training and retaining a diverse team; the foresight and ability to delegate accordingly
- Keen analytic organization and problem-solving skills which allow for strategic data interpretation as opposed to simple reporting
Minimum Requirements at employment:
- Full-time in person
