Job Summary

The Sun is Britains biggest-selling newspaper and largest mobile news brand - and still growing - with a talented diverse team publishing the best news sport showbiz and lifestyle coverage in the business.

Your role: We are looking to appoint a Creator Social News Editor to help grow our award-winning operation. This is a rare opportunity for the right applicant to join The Suns digital newsdesk.

Day to day you will:

  • Lead video-first special projects in conjunction with the newsdesk to bring in brilliant agenda-driven exclusives that work across a variety of platforms and social media posts.

  • Understand how to commission and produce content with a video-first strategy and to translate this to social media platforms.

  • Manage and organise publishing strategies across print digital and video - including an understanding of how we use different video formats for different platforms.

  • Conceptualise and create ways to break stories in video-first format whether that be long-form pieces for our YouTube channel or shorter social media video campaigns.

  • Working on in-depth investigations and complex stories while managing reporters.

  • Take visually-challenged but weighty topics and help create engaging ways to promote or illustrate them in video formats.

  • Be comfortable on camera and able to pivot between chatty or more formal presentation styles.

  • Find exclusive original and quirky angles to produce fresh content across our platforms.

  • Be adept at FOIs investigations and turning agenda stories into big forward-facing exclusives.

  • Manage and juggle multiple long-term projects/campaigns at once for various platforms.

  • Commission stories taking into consideration words pictures video and social video.

  • Edit reporters copy and video and help develop stories with accuracy and flair.

  • Help train and develop our talented young reporters and get the most out of them.

What were looking for from you:

  • Experience working at a national brand with a track record of delivering exclusives

  • Experience of running reporters on the ground and handling investigations and FOIs

  • Video experience and ability to turn strong ideas into video-first and social content

  • Solid legal and IPSO knowledge and be confident in working with the lawyers

  • Solid contacts with reporters agencies and freelancers around the UK

  • Flair and an ability to spot the hidden potential in stories

  • Unflappable under pressure and delivers work at a consistently high standard

  • Positive attitude and good team player

  • Ability to use multiple content systems including Wordpress

  • Demonstrable understanding of the The Sun brand both print and digital
