We are recruiting for a Health and Safety Supervisor to join our successful and expanding Health Safety and Environment team on a permanent basis.
Cotswold Archaeology is one of the top four suppliers of professional archaeology and heritage services in the UK carrying out some of the most interesting complex and largest archaeological and heritage projects across England and Wales. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop a career in Health and Safety with the successful candidate playing an important role in supporting the delivery of a varied portfolio of archaeological projects across the UK as well as supporting our office-based activities. They will liaise with the team Manager and technical specialists as well as providing advice to teams across Cotswold Archaeology and assisting in engaging with external clients contractors and accrediting bodies.
The role will initially be based at our Kemble office and will involve a mixture of office-based and site-based work. The post will also involve away work where travel and overnight stays may be required therefore the ability to commit to this is required.
Main duties and responsibilities of the role:
- Assist in the delivery of the day-to-day H S&E requirements of CAs operations to ensure of compliance and to enhance CAs proactive safety culture.
- To assist in the delivery of CAs corporate H S&E strategy including assisting with training wellbeing education and development.
- To assist the SHEM with the maintenance of H S&E compliance including legal requirements accreditation supplier portals and any other H S&E requirements of our clients.
- Assist with CA site inspections and audits. Tracking corrective actions and recording their completion.
- Assist the SHEM in the collation and reporting of incidents and learning reports as well as assisting in the implementation of any required mitigations.
- Support incident investigations as required.
- Provide initial HS&E support to colleagues and act as a point of contact.
- Liaison with Client and Contractor representatives via site tours meetings reporting etc.)
- Attendance at H&S meetings as required including H&S Committee Staff Representative meetings project specific meetings etc.
- Coordinate and support in the delivery of H&S inductions.
- Support in the drafting and communication of H&S initiatives and toolbox talks.
- To carry out such other duties consistent with the scope of the role as may reasonably be required to ensure the success of the organisation.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- The ability to deal efficiently and courteously with colleagues sponsors and clients of CA officers of other bodies and members of the public.
- Demonstrable organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise to meet competing deadlines.
- Demonstrate appropriate use of initiative independent working and ability and willingness to learn new skills and take on additional responsibility.
- Competent user of MS Office packages.
- Full Manual Driving Licence. Experience and confidence in the driving of 4x4 vehicles and vans.
- Ability to commit to the undertaking of away work including some extended away work when required.
- Ability to undertake administrative tasks in an organised and efficient manner.
Desirable:
- Demonstrable competence and varied commercial experience in field archaeology gained from employment in professional British archaeological practice.
- Knowledge or expertise in a particular aspect of health safety wellbeing environment or sustainability.
- Exposure to workplace inspections or incident reporting.
- Any other relevant Health and Safety training.
- Previous demonstrable experience of supervision or other leadership duties.
