About the Position:

The High School Library Media Specialist is responsible for managing and promoting the use of the schools library media center. This role supports the high schools educational goals by fostering information literacy promoting a love of reading and collaborating with faculty to integrate information literacy skills into the curriculum. The specialist serves as a resource for students and staff curating a diverse and relevant collection and managing the librarys physical and digital resources.

  • Library Management and Operations
    • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all library materials equipment and resources.
    • Develop and manage the library budget under the direction of the principal.
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the library including circulation cataloging shelving and maintenance of the facility.
    • Manage and troubleshoot library technology including computers circulation software and presentation equipment.
    • Supervise library aides student aides and volunteers.
    • Compile and submit all necessary reports in a timely manner.
  • Curriculum and Instruction
    • Collaborate with teachers to design and implement lessons that integrate information literacy research skills and copyright.
    • Provide instruction to students on digital citizenship ethical use of information and effective research strategies.
    • Serve as a resource for staff on current literary trends emerging technologies as they relate to information literacy and instructional design.
    • Support school-wide initiatives such as literacy programs.
    • Provide professional development to staff where appropriate.
    • Represents school library media specialists on committees throughout the district.
  • Collection Development
    • Select acquire and process a diverse and balanced collection of print digital and media resources that support the high school curriculum and meet the needs and interests of the student body aligned with district policies.
    • Regularly evaluate and weed the collection to ensure its currency and relevance.
    • Manage and maintain access to online databases e-books and other digital resources.
  • Community Relations and Promotion
    • Create an inclusive welcoming and equitable library environment.
    • Promote library programs services and resources to students faculty and parents.
    • Host literary events book clubs and workshops.
    • Coordinate with public libraries university libraries and other community organizations to enhance student resources.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A bachelors degree from an accredited educational institution in education or related field. State of New Hampshire certification or be eligible for New Hampshire certification in Library Media Specialist. Preferred Masters degree in Library Science or Library Media/Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.

What We Offer:

This is a full-time school year position working 186 days per year plus an additional 12 days for before and after school activities. It is covered under our Pelham Education Association (PEA) collective bargaining agreement. Salary benefits and additional association benefits are in accordance with our collective bargaining agreement which can be found on our website under Department > Human Resources.

Selection Process:
