Job Summary

JOB TITLE: Vice President for Student Development

DEPARTMENT: Student Development

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

HOURS WORKED: 8am-5pm Monday - Friday evenings and weekends as required

ROLE:

The Vice President for Student Development works under the general direction of the President of the University and is primarily responsible for functions of student engagement health & wellness community life (resident and commuter) crisis response student discipline and general student welfare on campus. Currently oversees areas related to student success including academic support retention and international student services.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Student Development

Oversees a vibrant campus community life for both residential and commuter students.

Supervises student discipline and crisis response (in collaboration with Campus Safety). Provides ongoing leadership and training student development area leaders.

Oversees the training and hiring of RDs and Ras to build a strong support team and healthy pipeline of student leaders.

Oversees a robust calendar of campus activities and student engagement opportunities.

Oversees international student services.

Oversees academic support services ADA compliance and campus retention efforts.

Provides oversight for campus housing usage including residence halls and rentals throughout the year.

Oversee and develop an engaged and growing Student Council organization.

Serve as Title IX Coordinator on possible Title IX related incidents in accordance with Title IX regulations and the Student Handbook.

Oversees student health and counseling services. Collaborates with Vice President for Enrollment Management on new student launch initiatives. Oversees the orientation of new students and the FYE (first year experience) peer mentoring.

Oversee Intercultural Learning and Engagement (ILE) initiatives.

All other duties assigned by the President.


PROFESSIONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Doctorate preferred

Experience with relevant professional organizations

10 years of experience in senior leadership as a Student Development (or similar) professional.

Strong verbal and written skills

Experience in Staff Professional Development

A coachable and teachable spirit with solution-orientation at the forefront to deal with a variety of situations and personalities.

Effective project manager well organized and detail-oriented with a proven track record of creativity and resourcefulness.

Demonstrated high level of personal integrity and professionalism including the ability to work with confidential information.

Personal characteristics:

Demonstrated maturity in the Christian faith and practice. Capacity to articulate the merits of The Missionary Church to denominational constituents.

Doctrinal alignment with University and The Missionary Church.

Authenticity in word and deed and the ability to build strong enduring relationships with staff faculty and students.

Strong desire to promote Christ-centered higher education through transformational leadership.

Good working chemistry with the President Cabinet.

Ability and desire to pursue and develop strong interpersonal relationships.

Capacity to inspire and motivate teamwork.
