Position Overview
The Data Analyst II is supporting the Tennessee Population Health Consortium (TN-PHC) and its initiatives at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). This position focuses on the analysis of electronic health record (EHR) and administrative claims data with applications in population health research and quality improvement.
Working with R SAS SQL GIS and other tools the analyst will help design execute and interpret health services research studies. The role includes leadership of specific projects development of analytical dashboards creation of study cohorts and collaboration with both internal teams and external partners.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Project & Analytical Leadership
- Lead the analytics team for the CDCs Innovative Cardiovascular project.
- Select appropriate methods techniques and evaluation criteria for diverse research projects.
- Independently present findings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Exercise latitude in determining project objectives and deliverables.
Data Analysis & Management
- Design and execute complex statistical analyses including advanced modeling and trend analysis.
- Perform data de-identification using Safe Harbor or Expert Determination methods.
- Manage large linked datasets and generate core analytical files for projects.
- Create data extracts and formulate study cohorts.
- Assist with cleaning and managing the TN-POPnet database.
- Conduct GIS-based analyses as required.
Tool & Dashboard Development
- Build and maintain analytical dashboards in Tableau and/or Power BI.
- Design and develop data collection and reporting tools.
Research Support
- Collaborate with investigators to develop research designs and analysis plans.
- Prepare tables figures and other materials for manuscripts grant applications and presentations.
- Contribute to manuscript writing and reporting efforts.
- Produce practice improvement reports for participating TN-POPnet providers.
- Provide ad hoc reporting for faculty and collaborators.
Collaboration & Administration
- Work closely with Data Engineers UT Information Technology and the Center for Biomedical Informatics at UTHSC.
- Participate in regular research team meetings and planning sessions.
- Prepare documentation and assist with IRB approvals.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Masters degree in Biostatistics Epidemiology Health Informatics Data Science Computer Science or related field
High proficiency (at least 3 years of experience) in SAS SQL and Python programming.
Experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines
- Advanced knowledge of statistical testing and modeling (e.g. descriptive statistics multivariable regression trend analysis survival analysis predictive modeling).
- At least for 3 years working with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience using ArcGIS or other spatial tool
- At least two-year working on data mining machine learning and automation experience.
- Familiarity with data governance and HIPAA-compliant processes
Experience in NLP techniques to extract insights from unstructured data
