Assistant Manager Safety Health & Environment
Job Summary
Job summary:
Will be responsible for overseeing health safety and environmental compliance within the consumer goods warehouse. This role ensures safe operations regulatory adherence and continuous improvement of workplace safety standards. The incumbent will conduct risk assessments manage incident investigations and implement preventive measures to safeguard employees contractors and visitors. They will also lead training programs monitor warehouse-specific risks (such as forklift operations and goods handling) and prepare reports for audits and regulatory inspections.
Job Responsibilities:
Health Safety & Environment (HSE) Management
- Implement and monitor workplace safety health and environmental programs in line with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular risk assessments HIRARC and inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA DOSH DOE and other relevant authorities.
- Lead incident investigations root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans drills and first-aid readiness.
Warehouse Safety Oversight
- Ensure safe handling storage and movement of consumer goods.
- Monitor forklift operations traffic management and ergonomics in warehouse activities.
- Oversee contractor safety management and permit-to-work systems.
Training & Awareness
- Conduct safety inductions toolbox talks and awareness campaigns for warehouse staff.
- Provide guidance on PPE usage hygiene practices and safe work procedures.
Compliance & Reporting
- Prepare monthly HSE reports KPI tracking and audit readiness (ISO 45001 ISO 14001).
- Liaise with government agencies and auditors during inspections.
- Maintain documentation for regulatory submissions and certifications.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process improvement in warehouse safety and sustainability.
- Deploy digital tools (e.g. QR code reporting Google Forms) for incident and near-miss tracking.
- Manage departmental operating budgets and costs according to annual allocation to ensure efficient usage of resources where applicable
- Oversee the implementation of safety health and environmental (SHE) practices to ensure alignment to global DKSH safety policy and local/international safety standards
- Manage regular occupational safety health and environment inspections; and implement appropriate corrective actions to ensure potential safety issues and environmental incidences are eliminated
- Ensure accurate timely documentation and closure or eventual correction and prevention of incidents and accidents
- Oversee the alignment of waste management and disposal procedures with environmental laws and government regulations
- Lead initiatives to ensure workplace conditions which affect health and safety of employees are corrected or mitigated with control procedures
- Ensure regular and continuous education of employees on relevant safety health and environmental (SHE) policies procedures and activities to ensure consistent implementation
- Build relationships with government agencies and regulatory bodies on matters related to safety health and environment (SHE)
- Able to conduct HSE audit and willing to travel
Job Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years experience in a similar role
- Bachelors Degree in Environmental Technology Occupational Safety or related field.
- Minimum 35 years of HSE experience preferably in warehouse or logistics operations.
- Certified Green Book Holder (Malaysia) or equivalent recognized safety certification.
- Strong knowledge of local regulatory requirements and international standards (ISO OSHA).
- Excellent communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia; able to train and engage diverse workforce.
- Proactive detail-oriented and able to balance firmness with empathy in leadership.
