Job Overview
The Electrical Student Summer Support employee will support licensed Electricians in maintaining safe efficient and well-functioning school facilities. This opportunity provides hands-on exposure to work in maintaining installing repairing and inspecting electrical systems and equipment preventative maintenance and facility management practices within an educational environment.
Student Summer Support employees will gain broad experience in electrical equipment and systems in school facilities while developing workplace readiness and technical skills in the skilled trades.
This position is open only to currently enrolled LCPS high school students. Applicants who do not meet this requirement will not be considered.
Roles and Responsibilities
The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate.
- Participates in pre-journeyman-level electrical maintenance repair and construction tasks. Assists licensed technicians in repairs and installations of electrical systems and equipment.
- Assists journeyman-level technicians in inspecting and conducting preventative maintenance on electrical systems and components.
- Assists with the preparation operation and cleaning of tools and equipment.
- Loads and unloads materials tools and equipment from trucks.
- Carries equipment and tools to and from the worksite.
- Supports minor maintenance tasks and basic repairs as assigned.
- Help maintain clean safe and organized mechanical and work areas.
- Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Interest in the electrical field or facilities management.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow technical and safety procedures.
- Professional communication skills and strong work ethic.
- General knowledge of occupational hazards and safety.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a currently enrolled LCPS high school junior or senior.
- Applicants who do not meet this requirement will not be considered.
Physical Requirements
This job requires strength agility dexterity and visual acuity to perform all tasks. While performing the duties of this job the employee must adhere to all site safety regulations and may be required to regularly stand sit walk bend climb ladders and/or kneel. There may be exposure to extreme heat and cold outdoor environments heavy equipment moving machinery fumes toxic or caustic chemicals and loud noises. This job requires lifting up to 25 lbs. periodically lifting/moving up to 50 lbs. and occasional lifting/moving up to 100 lbs. alone or with assistance. Must be Comfortable working in mechanical rooms and active school environments.
