The Middle School Media Specialist implements and manages a comprehensive library media and technology program aligned with the Arkansas School Library Media Standards. This role supports student achievement by promoting literacy teaching research and digital citizenship skills and leading the effective integration and management of technology including 1:1 student devices and staff instructional technology. The media specialist also supports school communication systems and serves as a key resource for maintaining digital platforms that connect the school with families and the community.
Direct and Indirect Services Supporting Students and Staff- include but not limited to:
Teaching information literacy digital citizenship and research skills aligned to Arkansas standards
Collaborating with teachers to plan and deliver integrated lessons using library resources and technology
Promoting reading engagement through book talks displays and literacy initiatives
Assisting students with locating evaluating and using information effectively
Supporting diverse learners through differentiated resources and instruction
Providing equitable access to print and digital materials that support curriculum and student interests
Supporting and troubleshooting 1:1 student devices and assisting staff with teacher devices and instructional technology
Assisting teachers and students with digital platforms databases and instructional tools
Promoting safe ethical and responsible use of technology and information
Providing informal training and support for staff on technology tools and digital resources
Supporting school communication platforms including ParentSquare and social media to promote events resources and student learning
Assisting with updates and maintenance of the school website to ensure accurate and timely information
Facilitating a welcoming and student-centered library/media environment
Program Administration and Management- include but not limited to:
Managing and maintaining the library/media collection (cataloging inventory and weeding)
Overseeing circulation systems and maintaining accurate records
Supporting management and organization of school technology including tracking and basic maintenance of student and staff devices
Assisting with coordination of device distribution collection and inventory for 1:1 programs
Maintaining and updating the school website to ensure compliance accessibility and current information
Supporting school-wide communication systems and ensuring consistency of messaging across platforms
Maintaining an organized safe and accessible media center
Coordinating ordering of books materials and digital resources
Participating in school committees and supporting school-wide initiatives
Supervising students in the media center
Qualifications:
Valid Arkansas teaching license with Library Media Specialist endorsement- preferred
Knowledge of Arkansas School Library Media Standards and instructional technology integration
Strong collaboration communication and organizational skills
Experience supporting 1:1 device environments and school communication platforms preferred
