The purpose of the Research and Development Office is to support high quality research and researchers by:
Supporting researchers to meet their obligations with respect to ethics integrity project management supervision and reporting.
Supporting researchers to develop their skills and knowledge in areas of Research and Development Office expertise.
Supporting researchers to develop high quality research funding proposals.
Developing analysing and reporting high quality research management data to support the strategic development of Garvans research profile.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Research Grants Officer will be responsible for the administrative and clerical duties associated with the management of peer-reviewed grants and fellowships. This role facilitates research excellence by supporting researchers through the entire grant lifecycle from identifying opportunities to managing successful funding.
This position supports all key activities of the Research Grants Officer including maintaining Garvans Publication Repository and delivering requested outputs. It also helps ensure the Institutes compliance with open access mandates and the accurate tracking of its scientific impact. All work must be carried out in accordance with the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research. This is a permanent full time position.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
The key responsibilities:
Grant Management (Pre-Award & Post-Award)
Application Support: Assist researchers in preparing and submitting research funding applications including compliance checking and coordinating large-scale collaborative bids.
Grant Establishment: Work with researchers and business units to ensure all administrative ethics and legal requirements are met for successful applications.
Financial & Milestone Monitoring: Assist in setting up finance schedules and ensuring the timely submission of scientific and financial reports.
Stakeholder Liaison: Act as a point of contact for external funding organisations (e.g. NHMRC) regarding applications and funding agreements.
Advisory Services: Provide guidance on complex issues such as changes to eligibility collaborations and grant variations.
Publication Maintenance & Repository Management
Repository Oversight: Contribute to the management of the Garvan Publications Repository ensuring its accuracy and compliance with open access mandates.
Metadata Management: Provide support in entering metadata for research publications assist researchers with depositing their outputs and work with IT on system integration as required
Scholarly Advice: Advise researchers on copyright licensing and open access requirements
Reporting & Data Analysis
Reporting Framework: Assist with recurring reporting schedule including quarterly Garvan Board Reports and annual reports for the NHMRC OHMR MRSP and Perpetual.
Strategic Analysis: Provide data analysis to support research proposals and strategic planning.
Ad Hoc Requests: Deliver customised reports for senior leadership including Faculty and external partners (e.g. UNSW).
Records & Continuous Improvement
Electronic Records: Maintain all electronic files associated with grant funding contract research and philanthropic grants.
Best Practice: Contribute to the continuous improvement of office processes and the adoption of best practice initiatives.
ABOUT YOU
The key skills and experience include:
Education: Relevant qualifications and/or experience in university or research institute grants management
Grant Expertise: Proven experience in both pre-award and post-award grant management or similar experiences
Publication Knowledge: Strong understanding of medical research publication practices databases indexing and open access policies.
Data Literacy: Experience manipulating publication data and interpreting complex data sets to develop reports.
Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Compliance: Deep commitment to the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research
